Subject: Fiddle Tunes on line From: KT Date: 12 Oct 03 - 03:38 PM Hey folks! There is a great site, Pub Session Tunes, http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/pub-session-tunes/index.htm which I like to use for learning new tunes. It's a great site for learning new tunes because you can use the sheet music or play along by ear or BOTH. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend other sites that have the same capabilities. Thanks in advance! KT |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Helen Date: 12 Oct 03 - 08:41 PM There is the BBC Virtual Session which seems pretty good. Helen |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: KT Date: 13 Oct 03 - 01:08 AM Helen, Thanks so much for the referral! I was not familiar with that site. It's great and exactly the kind of thing I am looking for! There must be lots of others out there...It's just a matter of finding them. KT |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Helen Date: 13 Oct 03 - 02:13 AM Hi KT, Most of the northern hemisphere Mudcatters are probably still asleep, but when they wake up I am sure that they will know some more sites. Helen, in Australia |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: GUEST Date: 13 Oct 03 - 04:47 AM There is also: http://www.thesession.org and http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/FindTune.html Sorry. I don't know how to make links as I am not very highly evolved, belonging with the amoeba when it comes to technology. The latter URL is particularly fab. It has virtually every version of every tune in every key - an amazing resource! |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Fibula Mattock Date: 13 Oct 03 - 08:55 AM Blue clicky for JC's tunefinder - a great site. |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Maffet Date: 13 Oct 03 - 09:03 AM BBC's session is really very good. I have now very good reason to repair my internet connection at home. Yeah! I must try it with instrument. There is a few jigs I play, so funny to practise :-) thank you ... thank you :-) |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: KT Date: 14 Oct 03 - 12:14 AM Helen, Guest and Fib Mat, Thanks so much for the suggestions! I am so glad to have my computer up and running again to be able to utilize these sites. A virtual session is a great way to learn a tune when there isn't a live one somewhere!! I'll check these out!! KT |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: GUEST,Boab Date: 14 Oct 03 - 01:34 AM Helen, I LOVE YOU!!! Boab |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Helen Date: 14 Oct 03 - 03:09 AM You do, Boab? I'm embarrassed! But what did I do? Helen |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Sorcha Date: 14 Oct 03 - 12:28 PM One thing that many people don't know about JC's is that once you get the sheet music gif up, you can click on "Return tune in other format" and click on the MIDI, then minimize the sound window while you watch/play along with the sheet music. Handy, that. |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: GUEST,KT Date: 15 Oct 03 - 01:36 AM Thanks for sharing that, Sorcha!! This is going to be fun!! KT |

Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: dermod in salisbury Date: 16 Oct 03 - 05:27 PM Sadly, KT's recommended site now appears to have stopped providing an open service, but offers instead information on buying the CD version. The BBC's site remains a great free resource for would be session musicians. |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: GUEST,KT Date: 17 Oct 03 - 07:47 PM Actually, Dermod, the first several tunes in each section (on the Pub Session Tunes site) are still available to online users. One of the things I appreciate about the Pub Session Site is that the tunes are played at a moderate speed, which is a great help to those who play by ear. I am considering purchasing the CD, which plays each tune in three different speeds, but I'm not sure if it will work on my MAC. Anyone out there familiar with the CD? |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: katlaughing Date: 08 Aug 05 - 11:15 PM Anyone still using the BBC Virtual Session listed above? I used to, on our old computer, no problem. Now, on our over a year old PC, I have installed the Flash player they recommend and it still doesn't work. On their main page it says to click on the picture above to play along and there is no picture! The Flash player is supposed to work with Mozilla and I've checked my settings...everything looks okay and the Flash thing says it is installed. So...is it me or is the BBC thing messed up? Thanks! kat |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Stewart Date: 08 Aug 05 - 11:37 PM Still works for me. I'm using Firefox browser. S. in Seattle |
Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: katlaughing Date: 08 Aug 05 - 11:43 PM Hmmm, thanks, Stewart. I am using Firefox, too. |
