Or, more precisely, within travelling distance of London, Guelph, Cannington,or Toronto?

Well, I'm "from" Ontario but no longer "in" Ontario. I'm travelling distance from all those places, but it does entail a 7 hours flight and several hours to and from airports.

Check the Mudcat locator.

There are a lot of us. I'm in Goderich, an hour and a quarter from London. There are many lurkers from Ontario too. Why do you ask?

Peace, Mooh.

Just hoping there are more people interested than there were in Pawling, British folk music doesn't get much better than this
I hope some of you are able to get there.

And following Martin comes me!Not many people know that the first recording I made was an EP on Transatlantic in 1965 accompanied on guitar by Martin Carthy. It amazes me that here we are 38 years later both still working and appearing in Ontario. Those two young men back then would be amazed!

Oh well never mind, looks like no-one's near enough to go see M. Carthy in Canada, except maybe Clinton who's about 40 miles away from Ann Arbor (at least that's what it looks like on the map).
Maybe next time

I've gone further to hear music lots of times, because I am limited by the size of my locale and its venues. However, I gotta work, which prevents me from getting to see a lot of acts I would enjoy. Think I'll retire early.

Thanks for the headsup anyway.

Peace, Mooh.

You know, Martin Carthy is playing in Ann Arbor on the 20th. 8 p.m. at the Ark.

Ann Arbor is a cool 45 min to an hour away, by the time I mess with the potential dufus factor at the border... Martin Carthy isn't someone I'd 'hassle' to go see...

Clinton - would you drive to LaSalle?

(Thread Creep!) The Windsor Police Pipe Band (the pipe band I play with) presents the BATTLEFIELD BAND direct from Scotland on their North American Tour.

Wednesday, November 26, 2003
Doors Open at 7:00 p.m.
St Thomas of Villanova HS Auditorium
LaSalle, Ontario (near Windsor)
Tickets are $20.00 Canadian and are available at:
The Cleary Box Office – Windsor – (519) 252-6579
Essex Travel – (519) 258-6551

The pipe band will play for a short time at the start then grab our seats and be audience for a while. This will be the second time I played in a pipe band opening for Battlefield Band. Those guys drink even better than Rod Stewart's band... after the show...

Pete

LaSalle?? To see Martin Carthy? Probably not... MC's not really my cup of tea...

And well, I can't take Bagpipes long enough to be much of a Battlefiled Band fan...

If it was Old Blind Dogs, I'd RUN to be there!

So I'm 'nobody', okthen??!    The last time I heard Martin Carthy in Toronto, he was with the Waterson Carthy band, at the Tranzac. I love listening to Eliza play fiddle, and the whole evening was incredible.

Normally I would never miss a chance to go see and hear Martin Carthy in any situation, especially solo! I rank him among the guitar playing elite in this world, and a superb both traditionalist and innovator. He's in the same class as say Doc Watson is to bluegrass or Eric Clapton to electic blues for example.   I'm kicking myself because I'll be stuck up in Sudbury Ontario at a folk music conference of all things - that to miss Martin Carthy DARN!
GO see him - life is too short to miss great things such as this.

I will be there on Sunday night, it's about a 1 - 1 1/4 hour drive for me. Then again most of the decent Folk Music in Ontario entails at least a one hour drive so it's no big deal. Especially as I don't have a job to worry about getting up for on Monday morning.
