Are there any 'catters doing this year's Karrimor Mountain Marathon? If so it would be nice to meet up for a sing before / during (at the overnight camp) / after.

We're going up on the Friday afternoon, returning home on the Monday.

John

Wow - you must be fit. The very thought leaves me weak at the knees. Where is it this year?

Hi Sooz,

This year's little run is in SW Scotland, around Langholm: lots of hills / rivers / bogs etc, good KIMM country!
I'm not sure about 'fit' though, it begins with 'F', but I don't think it stands for fit!

Hi John J, I'm with Sooz - the fact that you dare even to contemplate it makes you a Hero in my book! Too many years of self-abuse (no, not THAT kind!!) rule me out completely.

Race you to the bar at the Festival Folk Club Johnny - Strollin' will keep you at the back of the queue! (Did you hear me on the steam driven wireless last night?)

Sorry but no, I was belting out the tunes till me fingers bled at the Blue Bell Session at Gringley. Got some takers for the downstairs session at the Festival Folk Club tomorrow night though.

Great stuff Johnny.
John you are indeed the only fit one among us. Go for it on our behalf and good luck! Mike and I have a couple of days walking booked in the Lakes at the end of the month but it will not be at marathon pace.

Is this the same location as the historic Ball?

In my serious running days I would have flown over just to say I'd done it...

Peter.

Midchuck, it's the Karrimor Mountain Marathon, not The Kirrimuir Mountain Marathon. Karrimor's not a place, it's an equipment firm. The Marathon's a two day event held annually in a different mountain area each year.
If you're interested, here's the WEB SITE.
Cheers
Ray

Gosh, you lot are making me feel very fit! I only wish I was. I've just heard the weather forecast for the next week, it looks like it's going to cold, wet, windy, possibly with snow on northern hills.

I wonder if I can squeeze my hot water bottle into my rucsac....perhaps if I dehydrate the water?

Sooz: have a lovely time in the Lakes, it surely is one of the most (if not THE most) beautiful areas in England, super for walking, drinking, eating, singing, drinking (I like to drink). I've just heard that the Farmer's Arms at Portinscale is closing for transformation into a restaurant. :-(

John

I once went on a walking holiday in the Lake District.... I walked all the way round Keswick Market.

You don't have to be that fit just to do it but you have to be fit to do it fast, like the marathon: there's a big difference between 5 hours and 2:04:56, the recently set men's world best, or 2:15:25 - the women's best. Good luck to all anyway: hope the weather is kind, makes such a difference.

Thanks Big Tim!

The weather looks like it's going to be a bit cold, with snow coming in. This will slow all competitors down, not only because running on snow covered rough ground is not easy, but navigation becomes more tricky and because of all the extra camping gear need to be carried.

Ho hum

John

Yes the terrain and weather are very important. When I think of hill running I always think of Ron Hill leading the Three Peaks, then getting lost in the mist and ending up about 5th. He also led the Ben Nevis but fell on the descent, came home covered in blood, way down the field: and on the road and track Ron was a world record holder, a European and Commonwealth champion, but he never won the Three Peaks or the Ben Nevis (if memory serves).
