I told you all last year and I'll tell you again now, those who didn't come to the Gainsborough (Lincolnshire) Folk Festival are suckers. Another fantastic (and cheap) weekend with superb sets from AKMED'S CAMEL (Friday-night Ceilidh), KERFUFFLE (watch out you oldies, the youngsters are coming!), TEGWEN & EMMA (More youngsters - Stunning), JULIE ELLISON (a major talent), the magnificent COOPE, BOYES AND SIMPSON (need I say more?), JEZ LOWE AND THE BAD PENNIES (Oh Man!!), THE GUYS (& GALS) FROM THE LION, WATH-ON-DEARNE (Excellent almost-local talent and generally all-round Good Eggs), WINTER-WILSON (Dave, songwriter & performer extraordinaire and Kip, a great voice and sex-on-a-stick!), LES BARKER (daft as a brush and side-splittingly hilarious) and FIREBRAND (great tunes and the wonderful voice of Miranda Sykes). Twenty-Five Quid the lot! Can't ask for more.

Also excellent singarounds and open stage - Lou Marriott, 'Sensible Shoes' and many more.

Thanks to all who came, played and paid to support us and thanks to all involved in the organisation - especially SOOZ, without whom it wouldn't happen.

Johnny

Yep, those of us in the know came, enjoyed and got knackered, wore the t-shirt, bought the book (of our favourite Les Barker missive) and are waiting for the film version!.

Only 360 odd days until the next one. We'll be ready and waiting for you. DARE YOU MISS IT?

Sorry not to post earlier (head stuck in various recording devices in what you could call our studio ever since).

The Gainsborough Festival is a fantastic event. I can only offer thanks to everyone involved.

To the organisers for a warm welcome (can we come back next year please?), to the other performers for an excellent set of sets (if that is the right collective noun) and the audience for their incredible reaction to Julie's set.

The venues were superb, the Old Hall impressive (won't it be nice when they've finished the plastering? - sorry - for those who don't know its, er, old) - the Arts Centre a fantastic setting.

The sound man did a terrific job, Julie's main guitar is an odd beast and not the easiest to deal with - but he got a great sound in a very short time - very professional and helpful.

I'd never seen Kerfuffle before, and they lived up to their reputation. Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies always impress me with their professionalism.

Coope, Boyes and Simpson sounded fantastic (as ever) desite the fact that I heard most of their set on the other side of the auditorium doors - sorry chaps I got involved in a conversation with Georgina Boyes about our record label and the advice she was giving us had to be listened to. Yet more thanks again here I am afraid, she didn't have to give us that help and she did.

Sorry we couldn't stay till Sunday, but work called. Speaking of which ...

Best regards
John Robinson

Last year I popped over during the day on Saturday with my son, then three, who liked the Morris Dancers but was scared out of his wits by John Kirkpatrick. (I came back to see the gorgeously trousered one in the evening...) This year unfortunately we were otherwise engaged, because he LOVES Coope Boyes and Simpson. But husband and I came to the concert in the evening and brought a friend. Had a wonderful evening. I feel kind of guilty for just coming to the concert, but with child in tow during the day it's a bit tricky. How about just a little teeny weeny children's event next year? He'll be five by then! We're taking him to see Blowzabella in November!

Thanks for the suggestion Jennifer - it hasn't been cost effective to have children's events so far but its something we'd like to do.

A warm welcome, cracking atmosphere, great sing arounds at the brewers and vestry, superb singing and guitar workshop topped by a superb concert on the Saturday night. It'd be great if we could pull it off with such aplomb in Lincoln next easter!

Congrats to all the organising crew, here's to next year.

Gaucho
