Robin, I'll send you one for free! Photocopied liner-notes and all. I'll be in touch. My name is a beauty for all sorts of puns and tricky phrases. I've always liked it for that. I made a sign to go with the CDs for when I flog them at Maldon next week that says:
                            ODE TO JOY $20

Joybell,

you shouldn't trash them all - put a note on your web site - sorry, EVERYBODY's got one haven't they? :P that says

"Special offer - limited number of CD's playable ONLY on your PC" - and you should be able to flog them for two to three times the price of the normal CD...

There's one come along every minute - as P.T. Barnum said...

:-)

Your first message reminds me:
The Simpsons the other night showed an old episode where Bart is being taken care of by Flanders while Lisa is being born..

Bart is in the middle of the bed with the 2 Flanders boys, one each side - the Flanders boys are singing at - 3 am
"I've got Joy, Joy, Joy in my heart"
"where?"
"Down in my heart"
"where?"
"Down in my heart"
"I've got Joy, Joy, Joy in my heart"
...

etc...

I've got Fred on my PC - keep him turned off most of the time - when I get absolutely bored I fire him up and watch him do amusing things like fall around the screen and sit on the toilet reading a newspaper... really bored, that is ... :-)

Robin

Liz, Is it riding a bike? I have a friend with a biking dog that says things like "It looks as if you are writing a letter!" as he cycles across the screen. Damn cheek! None of its business. I like Lotus word pro. It came free with the computer and it lets you turn off all the silly bits and lets you put pictures in where you like.
Funny thing happened with my cd inserts. The printer put in the picture on the front because Microsoft Word wouldn't let me do it, and a disconnected phrase from inside my liner notes put itself above the picture. I planned to have just my name underneath and no title. The phrase says "a love of strange and beautiful old story songs" Just like that - all lower case. Looks great. I had them leave it.
Roger, Thanks I hadn't thought of the birds admiring themselves. Wish it would work for possums, but they do their raids in the dark.

Ah. I've got one of those cordless pen mice, brilliant for photo editing or small stuff that gets lost on the scanner. As a trained typist I use the keyboard a lot too. That way I can get RSI in BOTH wrists!

And as for that f&*^%*g Microsoft dog that bludgeons his way onto the screen...... I hate that sodding dog. Why won't it appear when I need it, but pops up every 5 minutes when I don't need it! Patronising little leg humper that it is.....

I used unwanted freebee data CDs to keep the pigeons off the peas & beans. Didn't scare them but the stupid damn birds are too busy admitring their reflections they forget the veg. !

RtS
(Herself thinks I've some music CDs that would be better used that way, too....)

Thanks Liz I do feel a lot less dumb. Yes it's the switch that takes away all the possibilities except the easiest and most efficient one that would be really useful. Are you a mouse person or a keyboard person? Mouse? OK mouse it is! Do you want silly illegible fonts? No? Zap out go the silly bits! No need to find them and take them out one by one! Just zap off they go!
The dream catchers are happening today I think. My True-love started drilling holes in a pile of CDs but that doesn't work. They fuse together! Today I do plan B. Tie the feathers and the cord around the middle hole. As soon as I perfect the creation I'd like to send you one. I'll keep you posted. Joy and happiness.

Ah, many times I've had calls from firms of accountants wanting to know how to fill in their tax forms. There are one or two that I have been very tempted to tell them, where it say 'trade or profession' to put 'moron' in the box, or to just send the form back to us for striking off, giving the reason 'too stupid to run a bath, let alone a company!'.

I don't have a problem with the 'on' switch - it's the 'make the f^%&ing thing do what I want it to' switch I can never find!

Thanks rr. Sounds fun.
Amergin, I made a data master cd (instead of audio)and had it copied 200 times. I neglected to ask which sort I should make for the copy process. I had just done all my own mastering and was feeling a bit smug I guess. A good friend admits he helped to lead me astray, but it was my responsibility ultimitly. I just should have asked. The cds will play on a computer but that's not what I had in mind.
I did hear about someone who had to pay $60 (Aus) to find the "on" switch on his computer. That made me feel a bit less of a dill.

Run them through the microwave for a couple of seconds, then make dreamcatchers with them. They'll have some real nice arcing patterns on them.

I know a computer tech who saves his for his village allotments to string up as bird scarers. He gets a lot of freebies - the haul I helped him with amounted to about 250.....

How about the addition of some beads and feathers and make a pretty range of hi-tech dreamcatchers?

Because of a costly mistake, entirely my fault - don't ask! - I have 200 useless cds. They have "Joy Joy Joy Joy Joy" written all over one side and sparkle nicely on the other. They will look good as mobiles or Christmas-tree decorations because of the message, I think. Does anyone have any other ideas?
Also stories about other stupid and expensive mistakes would make me feel a whole lot better. More to be pitied than censored I believe! I know what went wrong. I do have 200 playable cds now as well so things are looking up.
