C-flat, thanks for the correction, in fact I was way wrong and the ace guitarrist I saw playing in concert was in fact Buddy Whittington, that guy is seriously good.

Okthen, I think the name would be Walter Trout rather than Henry.

I missed him when he came to Louisville last year.... not advertised, and found out after the fact. I've heard Buddy Whittington is a really asset. Sounds like the concert was excellent!

Can I assume that his current guitarist Buddy Whittington was there ? A fine player - I hope you had a chance to hear him too.

I thought that Mayall was quite famous for stealing sidemen from others such as Alexis Korner and also for sacking them when he'd had enough of them (Keef Hartley?). Of course he helped so many excellent musicians to develop it seemed that you weren't a worthy blues player if you hadn't been in the Bluesbreakers at some time.

There were some notable lineups with US musicians as well - one of my favourites (or should that be favorites?) being the Don 'Sugarcane' Harris, Larry Taylor, Harvey Mandel one.

Two interesting programmes, first the documentary charting Mayall's life and times with interviews with the great guitarists he's helped to prominence, (strange that Peter Green was absent from this, maybe he wasn't well?). The impression I got was that for him everything else went on around him and despite the distractions (sex, dope, alcohol etc.) he was always together enough to keep the music going through what seems like a kaleidoscope of band personnel.

The second programme was a concert in Liverpool with his present band and Mick Taylor and Eric Clapton.Taylor was good but Clapton shone, playing some sublime blues making it look as easy as a stroll in the park, Mayall's regular lead guitar (Henry Trout??? please correct me if I'm wrong ) was almost his equal IMHO.

All in all two great programmes and thanks to BBC 4 for presenting them, I think there will be some more great concerts coming our way from this source.
