Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Phantom Crapper? Monologue From: GUEST,JohnB Date: 12 Apr 22 - 01:58 PM I just came across a video of my old friend Jack Lee performing "The Phantom of Balderstone Mill" one of the other links led to this page. I worked alongside Jack at Hawker Siddeley Aviation when I was an apprentice back in the 60's and lived in Smithy Bridge later, so we were regulars at the Fisherman's plus a couple of other paces later on. We used to go on hikes with Jack and Mave and family plus other members of the Folk Club. We even entered a Float in the Rochdale Carnival and won a prize, which we had a party with the proceeds. John B who moved to Canada in 1977. https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/Conte-Studio-Set-de-Croquis/dp/B001KZH2GE/ref=sr_1_3?crid=R6ODVR7239QA&keywords=conte+a+paris+studio+sketching+set+-+artists+assorted+drawing+pencils&qid=1649715293&s=kitchen&sprefix=%2Ckitchen%2C400&sr=1-3 |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Phantom Crapper? Monologue From: Seayaker Date: 23 Jan 11 - 11:58 AM I went once to the Fishermans Folk club in the early 70's and heard (it must have been) Jack Lee singing a song about a lighthouse keeper or sailor who had the choice of sleeping with two mermaid sisters. Two of the lines went; "The top half it was ugly fish But the bottom half was girl!" Anyone got any idea of the lyrics and tune? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Phantom Crapper? Monologue From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Jan 11 - 05:26 PM Jack Lee's CD "Live at the Servite Folk Club" includes a recitation of THE PHANTOM OF BALDERSTONE MILL. There's a 30-second sample on this page but his accent (or should I call it a dialect?) combined with the poor sound quality make it very difficult for me to understand. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Phantom Crapper? Monologue From: GUEST,Brummie Date: 17 Jan 11 - 06:53 PM Just came across this site ......Jack and Mavis Lee are still running a Country Music club called the Hobo's Retreat at The Reform Club,Heywood, every Thursday. At 80+years Jack still does 'a spot' of his monologues ie. The Old Dun Cow,Julius Ceasar,The Farting Contest and of course the one you are talking about is The Phantom of Balderstone Mill. I hope this now sheds some light on the whereabouts of the great couple....and of course Jack is still performing !!!!!! |

Subject: Lyr Req: The Phantom Crapper? Monologue From: GUEST,Topcat Date: 25 Oct 03 - 10:13 PM Does any one recall Jack Lee from the Fisherman folk club Hollingworth England reciting the "Phantom Crapper"? I remember the early 70's visiting the lakeside club which Jack and Mavis ran so well. The venue was great for a brisk walk around the lake shore to sober up before you got in the Ford-pop to drive home!! The monologue was fair side splitting; Jack would time it to perfection, building up the scene with rich innuendo. Monologue request anyone?. |
