Subject: Lyr Req: Squirrel Heads and Gravy From: GUEST,Docmando Date: 26 Oct 03 - 10:59 PM Can anyone help? I taught this tune to some friends, but now they insist on knowing the words. I've heard them once, but don't remember much. Something about going to Grandma's? house and being served this "dish". The chorus goes something like "Squirrel heads and gravy; squirrel heads and sauce; squirrel heads and gravy..." Thanks, Doc |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Squirrel Heads and Gravy From: Gypsy Date: 22 May 05 - 10:38 PM The story is for real. My father is from the BACK hills of Tennessee, and his father took him even further back to meet the kinfolk. Squirrel head stew was the menu that night. A greedy son took the entire head in his mouth........and had the jaws snap shut on the inside of his cheek. Little sympathy from his parents, who told him that he was to SHARE this delicacy with his cousin. So, if anyone finds the lyrics............would love to see them! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Squirrel Heads and Gravy From: GLoux Date: 23 May 05 - 09:14 AM Squirrel Heads and Gravy is a "new" tune by Chris Germain (i.e., not traditional). I never heard any lyrics associated with it. It is a great dance tune. -Greg |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Squirrel Heads and Gravy From: Big Jim from Jackson Date: 23 May 05 - 11:03 AM Squirrel heads are routinely consumed by the old-time squirrl hunters. My dad was a devotee of that delicacy. As for squirrel gravy, there is NOTHING that tops it in flavor! Fried squirrel, biscuits, and lots and losts of gravy---if I were a condemned man on death row and I had my choice for my last meal on this earth, this would be it. I understand there has been some concern about the practice of eating the heads. Something about the possibility of catching a disease similar to "mad cow." (Climbing trees; attacking acorns and hickory nuts; robbing bird feeders?) I think it might be worth the risk......... Don't knock it until you've tried it. |
