Subject: Mudcater on "All songs Considered" From: GUEST,Claire Date: 29 Oct 03 - 01:58 PM Good news from this Mudcatter. My band (Round the House) submitted our new cd to the internet show "All Songs Considered", associated with the NPR show "All things considered". Our cd passed the audition and we are on this weeks open mic. They chose to feature a song in Irish, "Casadh cam na Feadarnai" which we have interspersed with a jig. I am psyched that our traditional material is up there with all the other types of music. Here is the address http://www.npr.org/programs/asc/openmic I don't know how to do hot links. Visitors to the site can rank the songs that they hear... NPR says that "The ranking system, though imperfect, is a way for listeners to let you know what they think of your songs." We would very much appreciate it if you could go to the site and listen to our song and rank it. Has anyone else had their material up there? Any stories? All the best, Claire |

Subject: Our cd on NPR All Songs Considered From: GUEST,Sharon G Date: 29 Oct 03 - 02:04 PM Hey there mudcatters The new Round the House cd, "til the wee hours", was selected for this week's "open mic" feature on the NPR "All Songs Considered" Only 5 cds are selected each week from 100's that are submitted, so we feel very honored to be included. As you might imagine, we're really thrilled about it and wanted to share the news here. So many Mudcat readers were very helpful in providing information and advice during the recording process. You can visit the website here; http://www.npr.org/programs/asc/openmic There is an option to rate the songs on the website. This provides feedback to the artists. It isn't a competition. Of course, you're welcome to offer us any additional feedback here as well. Other mudcatters might want to try this, if you haven't done so. There are instructions on the website for how to submit your recording. Happy tunes Sharon Goldwasser |

Subject: RE: Mudcatter CD/song on NPR All Songs Considered From: GUEST,Claire Date: 29 Oct 03 - 06:12 PM I don't think the Kingston Trio have much to worry about. We are having fun though. I have contacted a number of stations that have folk/Celtic shows around the US, and several of them have requested copies of the cd to play on their shows. Also, we have gotten some good reviews so far; one from paythereckoning.com and several from our local and regional papers. They are on our website www.roundthehouse.com I am not sending a cd unless I have made contact with the reviewer or station and they have requested the cd, so that requires a lot of leg work. In other words, I am trying to let the cd go on tour for us. All our band members have families, jobs, commitments, so an actual tour is not in the cards. Mostly, it is fun to share our music with a wider audience. Claire |

Subject: RE: Mudcatter CD/song on NPR All Songs Considered From: GUEST,Claire Date: 05 Nov 03 - 12:56 PM Hi there, Just an update about having our song on the NPR All songs considered, open mic. Our score is at 4.012 right now, which is really great considering people could rate from 1 to 5. Thanks to all of you that took the time to check it out and vote. There was one group with more votes, Curtis Eller's American Circus. They must have a great following, this appears to be there 4th cd. All the cds on the site were really worthy efforts and it was very nice to be in such good company. Anyway, the reason I am writing is to encourage people to listen to the site and to submit their cds (instructions on the site). I have no idea if this made any difference for us on the national scene, afterall we are basically a regional band. But, it has really been great for our local recognition. People that have known about our band for ages, sort of took more notice of us. Relative that are not into music, were impressed (personally gratifying). I really encourage you to check out the site and the various stages (we are on stage 9) because there are some great groups up there, and it is fun to support local and regional artists around the country. Though, I didn't get to vote as it said voting was done for each of the songs I saw on Stage 9. I am sorry I didn't check this thread earlier. Well done! kat |
