Looking for the lyrics and muscic to the Magna Carter Rag and other folk music written and performed by the band Banded Geckos. The band performed reularly in and around Houston, Texas circa 1981-1985, esp. at the old Adnderson Fair in Montrose. The band produced at least one album during that time. I believe their production company, in Texas, might have been called Spanish Omlete Productions.

I have been unable to locate any of their music, lyrics, or even their old allbum. Any helpful suggestions? Anyone familiar with their music? Suggestions, resoruces, guidance, all would be appreciated.

I'll be glad to help you, but I'm afraid it won't be for a week. I'm leaving town tomorrow. As it happens, I've just begun singing with Russell Fory, one of the oringinal Geckos. If I get a chance, I'll call him and ask him to contact you himself. I keep telling him he should check out the Mudcat site, so maybe this will do it.

My friend June informed me this morning of finding this question about the Banded Geckos and the Magna Charta Rag. I used to be with the Geckos and I still have a few of the original albums left. Contact me at [e-mail] and I'll see about getting one to you. The album has the song you are interested in. It was written by Gary Young who was a bandmember at the time.

Also, since then, the Geckos have put out two CD's, ART GECKO and GECOUPAGE. They are available in Houston, Texas at Cactus Records or you can contact Evelyne Taylor at [e-mail] and order them.
