I think he lives round your way, Jeanie. Can't remember how I remember, but I think he lives at Hatfield Broad Oak, in beloved Essex.

I saw him at Faversham folk club in 1984, and I found his performance captivating. I watched most of his TV shows on the strength of that gig, and nothing on the telly came close to the initmacy of that small club. I was particularly struck by the debt of gratitude that he owed to the folk club circuit, and his humility in paying tribute.

Yes, there's plenty about Richard Digance on Google, Alan - it's that particular song that I can't find any trace of on there, whichever bits of the half-remembered lyrics I type in ! I'm hoping someone here will remember it. One of very many very funny songs.

I found him through Google a while back Jeanie, although the site was an unofficial one put up by a fan. It may have come down since. There are other threads here which mention Richard, notably "The Other World Cup", which was about his hilarious recitation, "The Jungle Cup Final". Someone posted it during the World Cup last summer. I used to see Richard regularly at the Cap and Gown on the King's Road in Reading ca 1977-79. I haven't seen him since. Those were good days. Some of the folks who played floor spots included Richard, Bill Zorn and Phil Beer, Mike Cooper, Spredthick (Simon Mayor and Hilary), Gerald (GT) Moore, Richard Cox-Smith, Hot Vultures (Ian A Andersen and Maggie Holland) and Bill Boazman. I was very spoilt in my youth!

I used to love listening to him on Capital Radio in the 1980's. There was a very funny song, with audience participation shouting out the lyrics, which I'm pretty sure was one of his: "All you're needing is a black suit.... All you're needing is a cape...All you're needing is a (something I can't remember)... All you're needing is a long black drape ....(lots of lyrics in between)... Blimey look at him, doesn't he look grim, he should be the one who's riding in the back." That's about all I can remember of it - A Google search produces nothing. Does anyone else remember that one ?

Lots of memories of laughing hysterically listening to the radio.

Boab - he's not only going grey - he's losing it as well! Mind you - any man who can do a Jubbly impression HAS to be showing his age by now!

He did do the singalong to adverts bit, just to see how old the audience were - I didn't know the words to the Ovaltinies so wasn't classed as ancient. Did know the rest though! He also did Eric the Elephant, with audience participation. Strange thing was, even though two of the friends I was with seemed a bit self conscious about doing the movemnets Digance can carry you with him and I didn't feel a complete fool sitting there doing them. Lovely man.

It's 11.30pm GMT and I've just got back from a Richard Digance concert. He's been doing a short tour and has a few more dates this month If he gets anywhere near you go and see him - the man is magic. A complete nutter, and worth every penny of the £12.50 I paid. I went with a group this time - last time, four years ago, I went on my own, but both times I just sat and laughed all the way through.
