My latest CD is all but ready to escape onto an unsuspecting public.
It's called "A Mon Like Harry - The songs of Harry Boardman" and features mainly songs from Harry's book "Folk Songs and Ballads of Lancashire" with one or two other songs that were recorded after the book was published. This is a joint production between myself and Chris Harvey-Pollington of Cock Robin Music and has been something we've thought of doing for a while now.
It should be available just after new year once we've tidied sleeve notes up and Chris has finished mastering the CD.

I'm singing the songs and playing banjo, concertina and mandolin, Jenny Shotliff is playing fiddle, Chris is playing accordion on a couple of tracks and adding some chorus along with Alison Younger.

There are 18 tracks some of which are:

The Hand Loom Weavers' Lament
The Merry Little Doffer
The Manchester Canal
Welcome Bonny Brid
With Henry Hunt We'll Go
Bowton's Yard
Handloom v Powerloom

Inevitably when we mentioned to people what we were doing we got asked if we were putting particular tracks on it. Volume 2 is probably not far off!

More details on my website HERE

Cheers

Mark

Thanks for the comments everybody.
I've sent some promotional CDs with a couple of tracks on it to various radio stations so with any luck you might get a preview in the next few weeks.
Already had interest from WFDU in New York (it's in the post Ron) so I'm looking forward to the tour over there!

Cheers
Mark

Whilst I'm at it can I ask if anybody's got any memories or old photos of Harry Boardman from any gigs he might have done at clubs or wherever?
I've put a load of details on the Folk North West site HERE about Harry if you haven't already seen it. I'm alway slooking for other things to add to it.

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark!
Good to hear that the project is on the way! Save us a copy please. Will send a cheque.
I have many happy memories of Harry - as you will no doubt remember - we did Miners Benefits in the '80s and various local radio programmes for the BBC.
Good luck with the CD!
All the best, Mary

Hi Mary

Those sets of programmes were great - "Ballads of Britain" and "Ballads of Occupation".Baz Barker still has the original tapes - maybe we could get GMR to rebroadcast them or get Ali to do a special programme featuring the odd episode in her show one night.

"Handloom Weavers' Lament" got a play last week on Lancashire Drift Did anybody hear it?
Les wants me and Chris Harvey in the studio to talk about it in January so I'm looking forward to that.

Lesley Boardman sent me an interesting photo the other day. Click here to see it.

Harry Basnett also got a play with a track from his "Decked Out With Pride" CD. Get that from Harry if you haven't already - great self written stuff in the traditional style.
