Now that I've lost my beloved audio engineer, I have to learn to do some things myself. I need to create a 4-track teaching cd twice a year that will teach my chorus all the parts together and their parts separately. For several years I did this on my little Tascam tape player, with pretty poor effect.
Now I see that Musician's Friend has a little 4-track digital Pandora PXR4 recorder at a price I can almost afford.
Check it out.
Does anyone know if this would be any good for my needs? Or should I beg/borrow/steal for something more? If the latter, what should I look for?

Dont know Pandora: yamaha do a very neat 4-track with all the editing facilities for the sort of thing you're talking about. (I know nothing about techicalities, but I have recorded three CD's using Yamahas, 4 or 8 tracks home studio things, and I found them just fine. But I'm sure there lots of others, I hope people wwith more experience will come by and give us the benefit of what they know. I'd be very interested with more info.

Short answer seems to be "yes". Limitations seem to be short recording time and no bouncing tracks (where you free up tracks by mixing down already recorded tracks.)

It does have a mic input in addition to the built in condenser, so the quality should be okay, and it's from Korg, so they know what they're doing.

You'll need to back up to your PC pretty regularly.

It's not clear whther the 34 minutes is really 8.5 minutes (i.e. 34 minutes shared between the four tracks) and you might want to check that out.

Very good advice- thanks for that!

Looking further into the Musician's Friend catalog it looks as though there are other items that wouldn't cost much more. I'm still looking and open to any and all advice!
