Subject: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: Amergin Date: 12 Nov 03 - 05:12 PM I just got this in my email...and it pisses me off...that cocksucker in the white house is doing his best to fuck us. Emergency: Overtime Pay Betrayal Nov. 12, 2003 Even though both houses of Congress responded to your appeals by voting to block President Bush's overtime pay cuts, the president is refusing to withdraw his pay cuts and says he will veto final legislation protecting overtime pay. Back-room maneuvering by the Bush administration and House Republican leaders has made it increasingly likely that the overtime pay protections we won will not make it out of Congress this year. Bush's Labor Department could put the overtime pay cuts into effect as soon as January. We still have a final chance to stop President Bush from taking away overtime pay from some 8 million workers if we make our voices heard. As many people as possible need to contact their senators and U.S. representative and tell them not to come home for the holidays without acting to protect overtime pay. Click below to take action or keep reading for more information. http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/otlastchance/xu7xwb4v78ewk How did this outrageous betrayal happen? After both the Senate and the House of Representatives passed measures to block President Bush's overtime pay take-away, a hand-picked committee of members of both of these bodies met behind closed doors to hammer out differences between the two versions of the overtime pay protections. House Republican leaders--working with President Bush's lobbyists--stacked the committee with legislators who support Bush's overtime pay take-away. So despite congressional votes to block President Bush's overtime pay take-away, millions of America's workers are likely to lose it soon. Please take one minute right now to send a message to your senators and representative by clicking on the link below. Tell them not to come home for the holidays without acting to protect overtime pay. http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/otlastchance/xu7xwb4v78ewk It is increasingly clear that President Bush will not withdraw his overtime pay take-away. That is why it is so important that as many people as possible get involved before it is too late. Please don't forget to spread the word. There are two ways to do this: After you take action, forward this e-mail or part of it to as many people as possible. Or click on the link below to send a message to up to 10 of your friends, family members and co-workers. http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/otlastchance/forward/xu7xwb4v78ewk The sweeping changes in America's work life President Bush is pushing will hurt millions of working families. Paychecks will be smaller. Work hours will be longer. Job quality will be worse. This is a sad moment in U.S. history--President Bush is taking America back nearly 70 years. Please take action and then spread the word. Thanks for all you do. |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: katlaughing Date: 12 Nov 03 - 06:02 PM IF he vetoes it, every worker who is able should stage a coordinated one day of NO OVERTIME, flat out refuse to work beyond that day's regular time. Above all, they should, if possible, join a union! |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: Bobert Date: 12 Nov 03 - 07:33 PM These facist pigs that have highjacked America ain't gonna figure it out until they screw over one too many hard workin' American. There is going to be a straw that breaks the camels back and when that day comes, Boss Hog class will no longer be safe in the country. He'll end up building brick walls around his McMansion and hiding like the coward that he really is... How utterly stupid... These folks don't have a clue, do they? Anyone notice what they did to Tom Daschle when he stood up to Boss Hog's "labor busting" provisions of the Homeland Security legislation? Yeah, he was systematiclly demonized by the crooks. They hate unions!... They Hate Social Security!... They hate anything other then *their* entitlements, which makes Social Security look like chump change... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: GUEST,pdc Date: 12 Nov 03 - 07:50 PM I think this legislation pretty well proves that the Diebold machines are in place, and will operate as this administration wants in 2004. |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: LadyJean Date: 13 Nov 03 - 12:20 AM Check the Dean web page, deanforamerica.com. He had an e petition against the overtime cuts. He may have a new one. I do not understand this internet thing, so I don't know how links are made. But I do know you should check out deanforamerica.com |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: GUEST,Guest (cookieless) Barry Finn Date: 13 Nov 03 - 02:24 AM Every night I go to sleep & have a nightmare & every morning when I wake up I find out it's real. Bobert, yes they do have a clue but they'll rape us anyway & ask for a kiss & our thanks as they slam the door in our faces & yell out "I'll be back tomorrow for more". Do we look like people that are asking to be raped, did we secretly want this to happen, is it the way we dress up in our work duds? Could it be that we're known to take this kind of abuse laying down & not speak up? This administration is killing every one, here & abroad, with a smile on their faces & the knife in our backs. Kat I love the idea of a national one day refusal to work. It seems to work very well overseas & it would finally get their attention, graab them by the ass. Even if this group of cut-throats were still not taking any notice of us, big business would take warning. I think it would be a hell of a wake up call, for them & us. Hell, it would improve our self respect & it certinaly would empower us, something that John Q Public has been missing a very long time. I also think it would give us a SAY (another thing that's been unseen for ages) in how this government acts. Barry |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: sian, west wales Date: 13 Nov 03 - 03:09 AM Interesting, particularly at a time when Europe is moving towards "work-life balance" and family-friendly hours. Of course, in Britain they're trying to make us believe that none of us want to retire, ever, and that it's our RIGHT to work until we're 102... sian |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Nov 03 - 03:50 AM Stupid that - they don't want us to work long hours but give us targets that are impossible to achieve without working the extra hours. They don't want us to work 50hr+ weeks but do want us to work for 50+ years. JOIN A UNION AND FIGHT FOR YOUR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: GUEST Date: 13 Nov 03 - 04:07 AM katlaughing has got the right answer to this one - don't work overtime if you are not going to be paid for it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: BlueJay Date: 13 Nov 03 - 04:45 AM Wow- a refusal to work day. While this might have a limited impact, I think one day is not enough. If the workers could organize, say a monthly refusal-to-work day, this might actually get these cocksuckers attention. I'd suggest the 15th of every month. The 1st would probably ruin society as we know it. Give the fuckers a little time to prepare. Have a heart, for goddsake. But if on the 15th of EVERY month, all the nurses, librarians, grocery clerks, teachers, school bus drivers etc. were to not work, I think that it wouldn't take long before the powers that be start to recognize the errors of their ways. If they don't, we could expand to two or three days a month. I don't think it'd take more than a year before we get decent wages and health care. Note that this is the same strategy that unions have employed. But most of us are unable to join a union. We need to act together as a cohesive group of service workers, long taken for granted in the US. But we would need an exceptionally strong leader, unlike any of the current Democratic fold. A revoltionary visionary, so to speak. But if the service sector of our economy were to stand up, as a whole and flex their muscles, even the very rich could not ignore it for very long. Thanks, BlueJay |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: EBarnacle Date: 13 Nov 03 - 09:41 AM When I left my job at the hospital, I was able to compensated for 981 hours of non-overtime work (that which falls between 37.5 and 40 hours per week) because I had kept good records and demanded my rights under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is one of the capabilities that they wish to take away. Tread on their ugly faces as they wish to tread on yours. |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 Nov 03 - 10:30 AM How about Rumsfeld hijacking the entire federal employee civil service system? Civil Service System Begins to Fade AwayBy Stephen Barr Sunday, November 9, 2003; Page C02 The civil service system is breaking up. House and Senate negotiators announced an agreement Friday that would permit the Pentagon to overhaul the pay and personnel rules for 746,000 civil service employees of the Defense Department. That agreement -- when combined with last year's decision to allow the Department of Homeland Security to rewrite pay and workplace rules for its 180,000 employees -- means that more than half the federal workforce will no longer be anchored by civil service law. The House-Senate agreement effectively ends the reign of the 1949 Classification Act, which created the General Schedule and the existing framework for setting pay and evaluating federal employees. The House-Senate agreement also sidelines important parts of the 1978 Civil Service Reform Act. "This is about dropping old thinking, old rules, old relationships," said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), who helped negotiate the agreement. What all of this means for federal employees is unclear. . . see the rest online. A very important statement in the article is this one: Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld began the push to change the department's personnel rules in the spring. The effort quickly became controversial. This is the Bush administration trashing the federal government at a time when no one is paying much attention in ways far more reaching than even his war in Iraq. They are literally going after ALL WORKERS. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Overtime Take-Away Betrayal From: Dave Bryant Date: 13 Nov 03 - 10:42 AM The UK government might want us all to work until we're 102, but they're not very keen to make ageism illegal when it comes to refusing to employ people. Employers can be taken to court if they turn an applicant down because of sex, colour, nationality, religion etc, but not because they deem you too old. |
