Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: bradfordian Date: 11 Dec 03 - 07:53 AM Electronic concertina? - a definite improvement on the electronic piano. Sounded great at the concert. Both got same problem tho, need a traditional power supply! |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Strollin' Johnny Date: 11 Dec 03 - 07:38 AM Me too! Wain't it be a good 'un! |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: Sooz Date: 11 Dec 03 - 06:46 AM They will be at Louth Folk Club's Christmas party on 19th December. (So will we!) |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: treewind Date: 10 Dec 03 - 07:11 AM Fabulous! (now I've listened to it at last) ...and I want an Anglo MIDI concertina now! Anahata |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Guest Date: 09 Dec 03 - 03:31 PM Definitely not Gerry but I have been known to wear a sarong (but not in public). No I'm not David Beckham either. I agree that "Come the Day" is a fine song with great words and young William sings it as well as anything he has done for years! But what do people think of the inclusion of the midi concertina? |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: Banjo-Flower Date: 09 Dec 03 - 01:14 PM BTW GUEST,Guest on the wall of the Cider Centre at Brandy Wharf for the past 20 years is a sign saying "Real men grow beards and make their own dresses" also look who won the Turner prize So are you sure you're not Shirl? Gerry |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: Banjo-Flower Date: 09 Dec 03 - 01:02 PM That's "Come the day" Gerry |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: Alio Date: 09 Dec 03 - 05:53 AM The new CD is great - I'll be playing a track from it on Sounds of Folk next week. Although many of the songs are contemporary, I think Bill and Dave perform them in a traditional style. I really like the one which was written by Ian from LocTup Together, but can't remember the title. Ali |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Strollin' Johnny Date: 09 Dec 03 - 05:38 AM 'Follow The Drum' was Bill 'n' Dave'e entry for the 2002 Lincolnshire Song Contest, and some of us reckon it should've won - it was the best song by a mile. And IMHO their performance of it on the Finals Night was also by far the best of the evening, should have won the Performance Prize. The judges must have had cloth ears. Johnny :-) |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST Date: 08 Dec 03 - 04:31 PM It was on the fifth of August, the weather fair and fine, Unto Brigg Fair I did repair; for love I was inclined. Brigg Fair sung by Joseph Taylor On the fifth day of August, not a cloud in the sky. But summer has ended and winter is nigh. Old men sing love songs written by John Conolly The composer George Butterworth was killed by a sniper's bullet on the fifth of August 1916. |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: treewind Date: 08 Dec 03 - 03:31 PM Yes - John Conolly named "Old Men Sing Love Songs" after the title of the previous CD and the jury's out on whether someone's now going to write a new song called "Less Sprightly"... It was a great pleasure to see Bill and Dave again at the Maypoles to Mistletoe concert at C# house yesterday. Pity the audience wasn't very big, but that was their loss (the ones who didn't turn up) - the performers had a great time! I'd better give my new copy of the CD a spin now. I know I'm going to enjoy it. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Strollin' Johnny Date: 08 Dec 03 - 08:10 AM Gerry, The red drape jacket fell apart at the seams (I guess I sweat pure acid!) so was consigned to the bin! I miss playing the old R&R, but I DON'T miss carrying tons of PA., amps, guitars, keyboards, drums and lights in and out of venues. Cheers, JB |

Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Sooz (at work) Date: 05 Dec 03 - 08:12 AM Look again at their material - less than half is traditional! |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Mike Date: 05 Dec 03 - 04:32 AM I too went to the recent concert to witness the launch of Bill Whaley and Dave Fletcher's New Album " Less Sprightly " ,an occasion made doubly important in that all proceeds were going to MacMillan Cancer Relief fund , a cause dear to Dave and his many friends (esp. Colin )... Point 1. I dont really like traditional folk music. Point 2. I do now!!! After the warm ups provided by Martin WR and John Conolly, I was blown away by Bill and Dave , especially in the sheer variety of songs in their set. Brilliant. Buy a copy of their album "Less Sprightly" or suffer mediocrity for the remaining duration of your eardrums. MIKE |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: Mark Dowding Date: 26 Nov 03 - 02:09 PM Ali - You can put me down for a ticket for Saddleworth if you've booked Bill and Dave. We've got them at Four Fools as well earlier in the year. The path from Lincolnshire to Lancashire is well trodden by these two! Cheers Mark |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Strollin' Johnny Date: 26 Nov 03 - 08:01 AM Banjo-Flower, I wondered who you were! Got it now - your secret's out! And WHO IS GUEST??? Anyone know? BTW everybody, buy the damn CD - Bill and Dave are SUPERSTARS. What are they doing playing little clubs for peanuts when talentless pillocks like Gareth Sodding Gates and the Gallagher brothers play stadia for millions? There's no justice! Just my Humble Opinion. I'm going to lie down now. Johnny |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: Alio Date: 26 Nov 03 - 07:10 AM We should have gone to the launch but found it was an awfully long way from Saddleworth unfortunately, so we've sent off a cheque for the CD. Can't wait to get it - we think they're excellent, so we've booked them for Saddleworth. Ali |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: gnomad Date: 25 Nov 03 - 02:54 PM Not at the "do" myself, but I saw them several times this year and if they were as good as every time I saw them then the audience will have had a real treat. I am just listening to the new cd, another treat. |
Subject: RE: Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher New CD From: GUEST,Guest Date: 15 Nov 03 - 01:38 PM Nearly three hundred people were at the "do" - I hope at least one is a Mudcatter who can give an opinion. I'm biased!! |
