Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: JohnB Date: 14 Dec 04 - 10:30 AM In a slight displacement ot Tradition, the Orange Peel Carolers (Orangeville is about 50 miles from Toronto Ontario Canada)sang several of the same carols including our first puplic kick at "Hail Smiling Morn" at the "Golden Kiwi" (owned by an ex New Zealander) in Cambridge (yeah the Ontario one) last Sunday. We had a great time, it's our third year at it now. Our audience loved it too. I guess we have a few years to go to catch up with the rest of you :) JohnB |

Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 13 Dec 04 - 03:26 PM The bus driver of the 11.00 am was closely questioned by his inspector because of the number of full fare paying passengers on Sunday. What a great sight to see all those catters getting off the bus. And the missus says thanks for the paper Jim. Dave |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Emma B Date: 13 Dec 04 - 01:20 PM Not just carols at The Royal but a chorus of "Happy Birthday" to Abuwood too! It was indeed a wonderful afternoon if just a tad crowded! A good session with McFat, Les and Maggie, Bassic and others afterwards in the Red House with a roaring fire. |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Abuwood Date: 13 Dec 04 - 03:43 AM We made it to Dungworth yesterday - well worth the journey for a great sing. |

Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 23 Dec 03 - 05:39 AM On close examination Partridge you started this thread!! And then you didn't come? Shame on you - all these people have been writing and visiting each other and texting and arranging transport and then you don't come? Bah! Humbug! :-) Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Partridge Date: 23 Dec 03 - 05:02 AM Didn't manage to get to the carols this year, never mind theres always next. Merry Christmas Jim x Pat |

Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 22 Dec 03 - 06:21 AM Sunday was again double fantastic. Thought it would be my last carolling but it now looks a possibility that I may be there next Sunday 28th as Sue and Molly are attempting to carol then drive to Whitby !!! |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Emma B Date: 21 Dec 03 - 07:11 PM Dave, I can't believe you could make a remark like that last one on a site like this! I await the usual responses. Hope you're not snowed in I couldn't face the prospect of the Snake this weekend but would have loved to have been there again |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 21 Dec 03 - 03:48 PM This Sunday was incredibly crowded and I had to resort to subterfuge to get in and out of the toilet. I also had problems getting enough beer. Good job I ordered two at the start and again later on. These two problems are not unconnected. MC Fat now has the local bus drivers trained to stop outside the pub. There was some wonderful singing and (Sue the organist) went through the carols at record pace. We probably got an extra one in thanks to that. A really good season I felt and I managed to make every one (though I shall be missing Dec 28th so my seat will be up for grabs. Regards, Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |

Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 17 Dec 03 - 04:41 AM Was a pretty mega sesh on Sunday. Let's see if we can make it even betterer on Sunday. |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Les from Hull Date: 16 Dec 03 - 05:58 PM They couldn't manage to kickstart the train from Hull, so that made us about 20 minutes late, and mucked about any connections we could have made. But we got there in time for the start. I was glad to add my voice to the basses, but it gets pretty inaudible on the really low notes. We had a wonderful time (as usual), but I did miss the draught Guinness and Jacob's Well. |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 16 Dec 03 - 05:31 PM Report on Sunday. MC Fat took my advice and managed to stop the bus outside the pub. Emma was a great guest and brought her boots for the walk. I understand that Les and others suffered from the vagaries of the transport system. I thought the singing was paricularly good.........some great basses from somewhere?? I can never understand why people on Desert Island Discs don't take Old Foster or Diadem. Regards, Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: John J Date: 16 Dec 03 - 09:02 AM I went to the Traveller's Rest at Oughtibridge t'other night, what a superb evening! Lots of good singing, very well kept Sam Smith's, and very agreeable company. I'll be back next year...perhaps even THIS year! John |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Emma B Date: 15 Dec 03 - 01:58 PM The walk put the mud into mudcat (and most of my jeans as well!) Thanks for a wonderful day and the chance to continue the "cheese thread" round the table with Dave and Helen and others later. |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 15 Dec 03 - 05:24 AM Les,Mags, Lady Aelfleda and Mrs Reg made it but had lots of adventures Mrs Reg got told of for using a sweary word (in context) as part of a story. They got lost on the way back and arrived late on parade at Fagans for vittals. Still a good day was had by all I think |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Emma B Date: 12 Dec 03 - 06:19 PM I'll bring my boots! - er... what do you mean about the "steep bit of road?" |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 12 Dec 03 - 03:13 PM I rest my case about the takings though. I am not taking any chances and shall be leading the usual walk!! Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Les from Hull Date: 12 Dec 03 - 02:13 PM It's just the slim and lovely Maggie and Les to add to the load. Lady Aelfleda and her mate will be joining us later as they can't make the early train journey. And we don't mind getting out and pushing for a bit if things get sticky. |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: GUEST,MC Fat (wearing his bus anorak) Date: 12 Dec 03 - 01:56 PM It's Yorkshire Traction/Terrier actually Dave and I resemble the remark about how much weight he is carrying |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 12 Dec 03 - 01:36 PM Dare I point out at this juncture it is only a small bus and if all you lot get on he may have difficulty at the steep bit of road after the dam? Also I would negotiate the fares, if he goes in with three times as much money as normal Mainline will think he has been going off his route! Regards, Dave |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: GUEST,MC Fat again !! Date: 12 Dec 03 - 06:13 AM Leeds train comes into Meadowhell on a different platform Jude. Follow the sings to the shopping centre and you'll see where the tram terminus is |

Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Emma B Date: 11 Dec 03 - 07:46 PM Walk sounds good but, in my experience, Sheffield is only flat on the A-Z pages!! Unfortunately I'm not a native (what IS the word for someone from Sheffield BTW?) so don't know a suitable route |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 11 Dec 03 - 05:46 PM Emma, Join me in a walking it!! Takes about 1.30 minutes, mostly flat. Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |

Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: GUEST Date: 11 Dec 03 - 04:45 PM I believe the Foolow bit is Saturday afternoon in the village hall, around 3-3.30 start. Don't swear to owt else as poster was a bit muzzy by 2.30. Ian Russell is involved in some capacity. I know no more! |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Folkiedave Date: 11 Dec 03 - 04:00 PM Can I just say that the instructions given by the hologram are perfect. Travellers Rest is small and a Sam Smith's house - it is quite tiny and there is not much spare room. Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: Les from Hull Date: 11 Dec 03 - 03:44 PM We'll be on the 8.50 from Hull. I believe that we'll try Jim's Meadowhall trick so we should be at Meadowhall at 10.10. The 9.18 from Leeds gets there at 10.01. (You see I've been getting lessons from Phil Grimm!) |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: GUEST,Lady Aelfleda Date: 11 Dec 03 - 02:08 PM Please Mr MC FAt - can I come to Dungworth on Sunday? I'll be very very good. I might try public transport too so if Les & Mags know what time they get into Sheffield I can meet up at the station & we could all go together to pull wild...oops wrong song Ta |
Subject: RE: South Yorkshire Carols From: John J Date: 11 Dec 03 - 01:02 PM Is anybody going to the Travellers Rest, Oughtibridge on Saturday (13/12/03)evening? Can anybody who's been before let me know if it's a venue worth travelling from Manchester to get to? I gather there's a bit of action on Saturday afternoon at Foolow, again, any reports / ideas? Cheers, John (Manchester) |
