Subject: effen song From: Denis Date: 08 Sep 98 - 06:55 PM Hi all I'm looking for the lyric to a song. I think its of Scottish origin about a little town called Effen (which I think is in France and I'm not really sure that this is the correct spelling). It involved a big Effen policeman somewhere in the lyric. Its one of those songs you hear at a session, that catches your ear and you wish you'd heard it all. Thanks to anyone who can help. |

Subject: RE: effen song From: BSeed Date: 09 Sep 98 - 01:20 AM By the way, Art, now that I have your attention--every time I try to send a message my computer crashes. I tried to reach you that way. I went to Down Home Music, our local source for folk, blues, reggae, etc., tapes, lps, and CDs to look for your "The Older I Get...." It was on their computer, but there was no listing for distributer or publisher. Do you sell it directly? --seed |

Subject: RE: effen song From: Art Thieme Date: 09 Sep 98 - 05:45 PM Mr. Seed, My computer's crashing every time I try to post this to ya. Will now be my 4th try. No, I'm not selling it myself at all. WATERBUG RECORDS at 1-800-466-0234 is doing all the personal orders and all distribution to stores, festivals etc.
It's called "Art Thieme--THE OLDER I GET, THE BETTER I WAS" (concert recordings from 3 decades) Now that I'm off the road and can't pick the instruments any longer, it does feel good to have something new out there.
Thanks so much for asking. Far be it from me to pass up a chance to push the album. A.T. |

Subject: Lyr Add: BEE FROM THE OLD TOWN OF EFFEN (M McGinn) From: skw@worldmusic.de Date: 14 Sep 98 - 11:00 AM The song 'The Bee From the Old Town of Effen' can be found in the book 'McGinn of the Calton' - the collected autobiography, songs and stories by Matt McGinn, published by the Glasgow District Libraries in 1987. By way of explanation, Matt writes: 'Just outside Ecclefechan, just nine hundred and twenty two and a half miles outside Ecclefechan, in fact, in France lies the sleepy little town of EFFEN, the curative quality of whose honey is renowned all over the civilised world - and in Glasgow. The very extraordinary bees who produce this honey are not unnaturally referred to as EFFEN bees in and around the town whose quaint architecture is marred by the factory in its centre where half the population are employed in the manufacturing of Gendarmes' truncheons or, as the French choose to call them, policemen's batons. The Bee From the Old Town of Effen
Now this big Effen beekeeper's wee Effen wife
The big Effen polisman he did his nut
The polis got hold of this big Effen bee
Now they're both in the Effen museum
That's the end of that wee Effen story
Matt doesn't give a tune, which doesn't matter much as I wouldn't be able to send it anyway. Perhaps someone else can help? - Susanne |
