Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: greg stephens Date: 09 Dec 03 - 02:12 PM My parcel has arrived...well I'm guessing its from a secret santa. It has very strange wrapping paper that nobody I knew would choose, and there is no address of origin on it. It is currently sitting under where the tree will be when I get round to going to the tree place. I am looking forward to it with great interest, but I shall restrain myself, till the official day and time. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: katlaughing Date: 09 Dec 03 - 04:20 PM Rog says he thinks my pressie has arrived, at least it looks likely. I will talk with him more this evening and get the lowdown. THANKS, Secret Santa, whoever you are!! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,karen k's SS Date: 09 Dec 03 - 04:25 PM Ah! Ha! There you are! All my hints about the licorice socks and all. I do hope they fit. You still don't know who I am do you! Lots of people drop into that post office that's on the post mark and the return address - ? Well anyone can make those little lables! And put any old name on them! Just because there's only one Mudcatter within hundreds of miles you needn't assume it's me! Karen's SS still desperately trying to remain anonymous until Christmas. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Hollowfox Date: 09 Dec 03 - 04:44 PM League of Conservative Voters?!?!? Well, JenEllen, as you might have guessed, I ordered it, but I didn't ship it. Doug Elliott is a conservationist for sure, but (while we've never discussed politics) this doesn't sound like his style. It doesn't seem exactly like his sense of humor either. On the other hand, he's big on recycling.... I hope you love his writing as much as I do. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Trevor Date: 09 Dec 03 - 06:28 PM Sandy Claws lives in Memphis!! Thank you, dear Kim. Love, Trev (munching candy, looking wistfully at piccie of boat whilst reading 'The Tennesean' and listening to CD!) |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Sussex Carole's SS Date: 10 Dec 03 - 11:47 AM Well, Carole, did you go pick up the package yet???? It won't wait forever..... |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: SussexCarole Date: 10 Dec 03 - 01:11 PM I'm trying so hard to collect it, the Post Office is only open during the hours I work so I've got to wait til Saturday...grrrrrr I'm so impatient. Thank you so much Santa..can't wait to collect it and have a feel & guess and then wait til Christmas day to open it! Carolexx x x |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Pseudolus Date: 10 Dec 03 - 01:21 PM I typed in a very long post only to have my computer crash and it looks like it didn't get saved so let me try this again.... I admit it, I gave in and opened the gift! But my SS PM'd me and told me to! Said something about there being stuff in there to be used before Christmas....boy was SHE right!! It's awesome! JenEllen is another in a list of GREAT Secret Santas I've had the pleasure to draw my name! Wait'll ya hear this..... Inside the box were two bear ornaments, personalized with the names Joshua and Jacob! For those of you that haven't heard they are the names of my miricale twins! Sometime in the next week, we will be putting up our tree and they will be the first ornaments hung! There were also two cassette tapes, one with some of JenEllen's favorite Christmas songs, the first of which was Bob and Doug McKenzie's Great White North twelve days of Christmas. My daughter and I listened to it on the way to her school this morning and we both laughed like idiots all the way...somehow each additional "and a beer...." is funnier than the last! The other tape is a collection of kids stories that originally came from Sorcha and JenEllen loved them so much she decided to pass a copy along to me and my family. It's the gift that keeps on giving! I can't wait to share the stories with Joshua and Jacob. Also the there was a jar of apple butter that looks like it was homemade...YUM! My father-in-law LOVES apple butter and my first thought was to share a little with him...and I thought, NO! hahahaha... As if that isn't enough there's a wrapped present that I think I will hold off on until Christmas morning (JenEllen's suggestion). What a great year! Christmas is always a special time and this makes it that much better! thanks JenEllen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Col K Date: 10 Dec 03 - 05:03 PM One card and one package have arrived, the package contains "wooden thing" on the customs declaration form.I have resisted opening it yet,but many thanks Santa. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Mudlark Date: 10 Dec 03 - 05:26 PM Wheeee! Came home from a long day in town to find that Santa had arrived while I was gone (dang it) and left a large plastic bag hanging from my gate post. I got it down, opened the bag, and inside, at the bottom, was a box, a cardboard box wound round and round with festive duct tape and deeply dented. OH NO! I thot...it's been Postal-ed! I carefully pulled it out and, cringing, rattled it, and was overjoyed to hear no alarming rattles. No sign on the outside of the box, as to SS's identity, but definitely from aX the pond. I carefully opened the box and found 3 treasures inside, plus a card. Luckily, I have a dispensation from the Father of All Santas and no will power, so opened all presents immediately. I started with the card, so now know that Firekat, and Tig and Badger, are my benefactors. Thank you, thank you for these great gifts! First off, a nifty hair brush, much like the one my English friend Linda has which I've coveted for some time, but soooo much better, as it's been personalized with some very clever woodburned decoration on the back. Is this your work, Kat? I've never owned a brush with my name on it! Next, a wonderfully inventive twisted wire sculpture--leaping dolphins, and also personalized with my own Mudcat monicker. And last, but definitely not least, a book I've been dying to read by one of my favorite authors: Bill Bryson's "Mother Tongue." Thank you again, Firekat, Tig and Badger for such thoughtful and creative gifts. Now with great pleasure I'm off to read my new book.... Nancy |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Firecat's Secret Santa Date: 10 Dec 03 - 06:09 PM OK! It's on the way. Whew! Hope that plane finds you OK. I am very far away from you, and have to hope all those hands in between are gentle. Have fun! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Firecat Date: 10 Dec 03 - 06:20 PM yay! Thanks for letting me know Santa! Mudlark, you didn't find all of the pressies! If you look carefully, there is another one! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Trevor Date: 10 Dec 03 - 07:29 PM Soz Kim! I read the label as well - goodness why I wrote Memphis - one of my blank moments I guess. And them thar munchies are great. And 'cheers' is a very English expression to put on the card. And I love your accent, on your phone message and the CD. Tell Paul to watch out, I'm smitten! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Mudlark Date: 10 Dec 03 - 09:20 PM Dear Firecat... Oh, oh, your heart must have been in your mouth when you read my message...it REALLY would be if you knew that tonight is trash night and everything is put in the bin. I don't know what made me look one more time in the box before tossing it...at least hasty stupidity was followed by native caution! I am truly overwhelmed with this last present! How could you know that silver bangles are just about the only jewelry I wear aside from some silver rings my husband made many years ago. I adore them! I am wearing them now and doubt I will ever take them off. They are STUNNING! The designs are sheer sculpture, off as well as on, they fit perfectly and I just love them. Really enjoyed your note too...found that as well. Glad to know another reader! Thanks all over again and 10 times over. You have made my Christmas! Love from your appreciative, grateful and admiring Santee... Nancy |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Col K's SS Date: 10 Dec 03 - 09:46 PM Dear Col... Thanks for letting me know that at least one sleigh shipment made it. There is another on its way, which you should receive soon if you've been a good Mudcatter, and a card as well. Ho ho ho, Merrrrrryyyyy Christmas! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Selby's SS Date: 11 Dec 03 - 03:59 AM Call me irresponsible Call me unreliable... ...call me brainless...but at least I finally remembered to take your present to the post office. Er, that is, I'm going to take it tomorrow. And will send it posthaste. No point in anonymity once you see the postmark (that's two hints)...but I hope you like it. --S |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 11 Dec 03 - 03:59 PM Hell no, I didn't wait till Christmas!!! WOW!!! I got a rock!!! But it's really, really, really a nice rock! I love my rock! Oh... The CD's and the guitar strings and the refrigerator magnet are cool too. But I LOVE my rock!!! Thanks For the Loot, Linn (Batgoddess) Bruce Bruce is from Florida, where there are no rocks, see. He has to make his own rocks in his pottery shop. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Amos Date: 11 Dec 03 - 04:08 PM I never thought Bruce was so easily amused!! They do say that on the internet, no-one knows if you're a dog, so maybe that is why? :>) A |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 11 Dec 03 - 05:44 PM Easily amused? Moi? Most certainly! But even the most jaded among us would find this particular rock enthralling. It came all the way from New Hampshire. From Bat Goddess and Curmudgeon no less. Man! I'm glad they've got a composting toilet 'cause if this stuff's what the ground is made of I'd hate like hell to try to dig an outhouse hole! I really love my rock! Bruce |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Firecat Date: 11 Dec 03 - 06:45 PM Phew! Glad you like them! And you're right, I was thinking Argh, has she found them! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Peg Date: 12 Dec 03 - 01:06 AM ooh, mine came in the mail today! And included a lovely handwritten card. Plus two gifties wrapped in red paper. Let's see how long I can wait before I open them! They came from the UK...but I still have no idea who my Santa is! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Peigín's Secretive Yule-Person Date: 12 Dec 03 - 04:29 AM Dear Peg, I'm so pleased about that...one never knows how successfully the snail attached to the pigeon's leg will negotiate The Pond! I hope that you will enjoy them...I have today sent another little thing which I hope you will also like (I think you will but am fearful that you may have it already knowing your musical tastes...in which case please feel free to pass it on to a person of your choice and I will send something else) since they are indeed rather small packages and since anything I could make you myself would be rather larger and heavier. Hopefully this will arrive by Yule or shortly thereafter. I also have some studio time planned in the New Year and, if the results are not too embarassing, I will also send you a copy of the fruits of that particular endeavour. It will, however, not be at all in the same style...! I posted a few more hints over in the "Goofy Hints" thread by the way! All the very best, Your Secretive Yule-Person |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: SussexCarole Date: 12 Dec 03 - 12:57 PM Well it's still 'nearly' arrived!!!! Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Amos Date: 12 Dec 03 - 02:28 PM Oh!! I see -- Bruce has been granite-deprived, and not feeling gneiss. Just goes to show ya shouldn't take people for granite! OK, I'll go quietly, Ossified! A |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Peg Date: 12 Dec 03 - 07:15 PM wel,l I caved...it has been a hellish week (one of my classes for next semester was cancelled and I now have to find another job) and I needed some cheering up. So I OPENED 'em! Yup, couldn't wait. Found, beneath the nice red stripey paper, a groovy pewter pentacle pendant, and a cool CD from some sexy Finnish singers! I have not listened to it yet, but as I will be painting in my apartment tomorrow I am sure it will get listened to a great deal then. I LOVE contemporary Scandinavian music! So thanks, Santa!!!! Now I must get my own prezzies in the mail for my Santee... Pegeen |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: MMario Date: 12 Dec 03 - 08:42 PM Mine arrived, and I was really really good and put it on the mantle to wait for Christmas. (And I mean REALLY good - as I wasn't expecting anything else - and hey - I still have the cadbury candy and Christmas Ale from Getaway - which thrilled me no end in the first place.) Anticipation - and of course I have NO clue who my santa is - even though there is a return address - except that it doesn't appear to be anyone from Hull. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Sorcha Date: 12 Dec 03 - 10:30 PM Mario, LOL! Not from Hull...no fun at all. Do any of the Hullions participate? |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 13 Dec 03 - 04:49 AM Sadly no Hullions participated this year....a few from Yorkshire did though!! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Micca Date: 13 Dec 03 - 08:51 AM NYAAAAAH, I got mine!!!!!!!!!! This mornings Post, and I now know who and where!!!!! I opened, if there had been an inner wrapping it would have stayed closed until The Day, but there wasnt, so Now I know!! Many Thanks MMario, It is Wonderful.....Just the kind of thing I like!! I will put your name and the date inside, as I like having my books personalised/signed from the giver, and I am NOT sending it back for you to sign!!! You are truly an Excellent SS, and many thanks, |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Bat Goddess Date: 13 Dec 03 - 09:57 AM It's not just granite! It may be mostly quartz and feldspar and mica, but it's got nice blood red GARNETS scattered through it. The garnets range in size from grain of sand size to pea size. Lovely color. I had to dig through snow to get to them, so I couldn't choose the best of what was available. Bruce got what came up in my mittened hand. But that's the stuff we're sitting on. Fortunately there's enough dirt and leaf mold to support all the trees (and my garden). The beaches (25 miles away) are even streaked with garnet sand sometimes after a storm. (I'm glad Bruce appreciates a fine rock when he sees one!) Linn |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 Dec 03 - 11:31 AM Ooooh, Bat Goddess, if I send you a Texas fossil, will you send me some of your granite? It sounds lovely! I grew up in the Pacific Northwest with a much bigger mix of rocks than down here in Texas (Limestone is king through much of this area--you have to travel to a distance to find places where ancient buried mountain ranges extrude and present igneous and metamorphic rocks and minerals). Granite can be one of the most amazing rocks. I love a good pegmatite also (musch bigger chunks, with crystal definition, than is what is defined in granite). There is a very nice tutorial on types of igneous rocks here, including granite. SRS |

From: GUEST,Greg's SS (again) Date: 14 Dec 03 - 11:01 AM Well Gregster, if you don't reckon the wrapping perhaps you won't like the contents, Maybe you could donate it all to the local Potteries Orphanage, I'm sure they'd like the paper!! I don't know, you work your fingers to the bone, wrapping presents, polishing sledge runners, and shovelling reindeer s**t, and the punters complain about the wrapping. SHEESH!! Oh no! not another centrally heated house!! Love Sanny |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Rapparee Date: 15 Dec 03 - 10:48 PM Somebody out there, my SS, has sent me a present. Yes!! And it's not coal or sticks or worse. That's because I've been goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood all year. My present came. It was in the PO Box when we picked up the mail this evening. (sniff, sniff) I've never gotten presents before. Never. First because we were so poor that Santa thought our house was the city dump (which it was, but that's another story) and then, later, because I was One Bad Dude. Thank you, SS. And may your horses always win, your bourbon be always strong and the branch for it always clean. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Sorcha Date: 15 Dec 03 - 10:53 PM Wonder if Sussex Carole won with Parceldelivery yet?? They never showed yesterday so she sent them a rather nasty email telling them to deliver it to her work office or else...... |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: JenEllen Date: 16 Dec 03 - 11:53 AM Hey, I can speak for BatGoddesses rocks---they're GREAT!! (I still have mine as the artshelf bookend--thanks, Linn) So glad to see you opened, Frank! The butter comes from a "Mystery Apple". They only grow on two grafts of a single tree in Selah. Even the folks at the State and Ag. Dept don't know what kind of apple it is. All we know is that it's goooooooood. It doesn't have a name yet, but the farmer is leaning towards naming them for what they are: "Emmit's Pride". Merry Christmas to your growing family! ("and a beer"...of course...) |

From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 Dec 03 - 12:12 PM Mine arrived today and I just had to open the box but so far have resisted the temptation to open the two packages inside.
