Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: kendall Date: 27 Nov 03 - 08:03 AM I think this works best without an instrument, but I tried it once in the natural "F" chord position, then just modulated the key up one fret at a time. |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 03 Jan 04 - 07:36 PM Marion's chords work perfectly, but there would be a school of thought which would substitute an F#dim for all (or most ) of the D7 chords. Any opinions? I would be particularly interested in M.Ted's take on this, in the event that he knows the song ... |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: GUEST,Jonathan Date: 19 Feb 04 - 06:39 PM Isn't there a verse about knocking a wall down? I seem to remember something about "that there wall is gonna have to have to go". Does anyone have the full lyrics? |
Subject: Lyr Add: RIGHT SAID FRED (Bernard Cribbins) From: GUEST,Darren Date: 07 Apr 04 - 08:01 AM Right said Fred Both of us together One each end and steady as we go Tried to shift it Couldn't even lift it We was getting nowhere And so We Had a cup of tea and Right said Fred Give a shout to Charlie Up comes Charlie from the floor below After straining Heaving and complaining We was getting nowhere And so We Had a cup of tea and Charlie had a think and he thought we ought To take off all the handles And the things wot held the candles But it did no good Well I never thought it would Oh Right said Fred Have to take the feet off To get them feet off wouldn't take a mo Took its feet off Even took the seat off Should have got us somewhere but no! So Fred said let's have another cup of tea And we said Right-o Oh Right said Fred Have to take the door off Need more space to shift the so-and-so Had bad twinges Taking off the hinges And it got us nowhere And so We Had a cup of tea and Right said Fred Have to take the wall down That there wall is gonna have to go Took the wall down Even with it all down We was getting nowhere And so We Had a cup of tea and Charlie had a think and he said look Fred I've got a sort of feeling If we remove the ceiling With a rope or two We could drop the blighter through Oh Right said Fred Climbing up a ladder With his crowbar gave a mighty blow Was he in trouble Half a ton of rubble Landed on the top of his dome! So Charlie and me had another cup of tea And then we Went home Spoken: I said to Charlie, we'll just have to leave it standing on the landing, that's all. You see the trouble with Fred is, he's... he's too hasty. Now you never get nowhere if you're too hasty. |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: GUEST,Fred Date: 12 Nov 07 - 07:21 AM I always thought it was a piano... |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: Bill D Date: 12 Nov 07 - 07:56 AM Well, obviously it wasn't a pianissimo. |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: GUEST,ed Date: 20 Jul 08 - 12:40 PM Marions chords are wrong, Check out the two blokes who wrote the song at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epnss7iVEY0 and watch his fingers. Its just A D x3 A E then A E x3 and can't be arsed to put anymore here |

Subject: Chords Add: RIGHT SAID FRED (Bernard Cribbins) From: Bru Date: 20 Jul 08 - 02:20 PM I can add my two pence - old two pence, that is - here, because I just happen to have the original sheet music for this one. Music by Ted Dicks, lyrics by Myles Rodge and copyright 1962 by Noel Gay Music. Typical 60's sheet music, written in Bb. (Bb)Right said (Eb7)Fred (Bb)Both of us to(Eb7)gether One each (Bb)end (Eb7)and (Bb)steady as we (Ab)go (Bb7)Tried to (Eb7)shift it (Bb7)couldn't even (Eb7)lift it (Bb)We was (Eb7)gettin' no(Bb)where (Bb9)And (Gm7)so (C7)we (F7)Had a cuppa tea and . (Bb)Right said Fred And - of course there are key changes. If anybody wants a scan of the original sheet mail me and I'll send it. |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: john f weldon Date: 20 Jul 08 - 03:15 PM Har! That's a great old song; it was top of the pops when i visited England as a teen! More recently Steve Gillette & Cyndi Magnessun (probly not spelt rite) recorded a version. Then a group used the song name as a group name and recorded "Too Sexy" which made them 87 gazillion dollars (less tax). All too weird, ain't it. I'm pretty sure the thing they were moving was an elephant stand; combo hat rack mirror and trunk. I think this cuz I tried to move one once and failed. |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 20 Jul 08 - 03:42 PM "Cyndi Magnessun" definitely not spelt rite ! try Cindy Mangsen ... There is rather a charming animated cartoon on YouTube to accompany Bernard Cribbins' original "Right Said Fred ", which, interestingly enough is sung in the key of C despite apparently having been written originally in B flat ... |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: Genie Date: 21 Jul 08 - 03:11 PM "Right Said Fred" is the name of the group that did "I'm Too Sexy (For My Shirt, etc.). I always wondered where they came up with that name. Guess now I know. |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: GUEST Date: 22 Jul 08 - 11:31 AM Hey bru, Nice one for the chords (apologies for my previous post everyone, absolute rubbish!) Does the chord pattern change for the third verse tho? The one that goes, "Charlie had a think and he thought we ought to take off all the handles and the things what held the candles" Maybe not but if you could send me that scan if its not too much trouble too that's be great(phy4ec@leeds.ac.uk) Cheers! |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: Bru Date: 22 Jul 08 - 01:55 PM Hi Guest I've sent a colour scan of the front cover and three pages of the original sheet music to the address in brackets. Saves me slogging it out on here, and you've got a proper copy. Let me know if it arrives OK. |
Subject: RE: Chords for 'Right, Said Fred'? From: GUEST,Ed Date: 23 Jul 08 - 06:37 AM Hi Bru, Thanks so much, arrived loud and clear (and colourful)! Now i can try to bash it out at a gig or something. Cheers, Ed |
Subject: RE: Chords Req: Right, Said Fred (Bernard Cribbins) From: GUEST Date: 07 Mar 11 - 07:58 AM Definitely NOT F#dim because you would lose the D bass..D9 works on alternate chord change depending on the melody... |

Subject: RE: Chords Req: Right, Said Fred (Bernard Cribbins) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 31 Oct 20 - 07:53 PM A song I remember well from way back: and now much requested by my grandchildren when we go out in the car: "Can we have that cup of tea song?" Thanks to a friend who lent me a CD of "Children's Favourites" on which it is the first track. I think they love the sound effects as much as anything - various boings and crashes! How do you replicate those when you are singing it? Guess it was a piano as older ones had "fings wot 'eld the candles" attached. |
