Subject: RE: Club moving From: My guru always said Date: 27 Nov 03 - 08:31 PM You can write that - but it would be a good idea to let people know that Jeremy Taylor can't come tomorrow as he's not well! |
Subject: RE: Club moving From: treewind Date: 28 Nov 03 - 06:31 AM "real ales, car park" Well that's a big improvement or two!!! Anahata |
Subject: RE: Club moving From: Moses Date: 28 Nov 03 - 06:40 AM I thought this might be from you Breezy. Vague Header; Insufficient information etc etc. Still meeting tonight but (as "Guru" said) without J T (get well soon!). Papa-G and supporting guest spots means it will still be a good evening. |
Subject: RE: Club moving From: My guru always said Date: 28 Nov 03 - 08:22 AM Yes indeed Moses - it was so obviously a Breezy thread! You can spot them a mile off!!!! Will be at the new venue for Dangerous Curves, see you then, have fun with George tonight - what a lucky club you are..... Hil |

Subject: RE: Club moving From: breezy Date: 04 Dec 03 - 07:49 PM after the rose and c Mary must be used to walking and talking,-bit like busking- but sadly the same rules as before apply at 'Windward'Folk king Harry But Mary, you dont sound like a beery folker. Was that you I saw at b'derth! I'm setting up a Sunday club at the Royal British Legion in St Albans, £3 adm for all, guests to do a half hour 'Spotlight' for which they get 50% of the take. Programme in the next issue of Unicorn 5 visits qualifies performers to apply for a gig. After 8 I cannot refuse you one. You've got 2 to your credit already. Opens Sunday 18th January 2004 |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: George Papavgeris Date: 04 Dec 03 - 08:03 PM Breezy, these rules are too simple and can have loopholes; suggest you include some additional criteria - 3rd digit of telephone number must be greater than the average mental age of the UK government, for example. |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - movin From: Mary Humphreys Date: 04 Dec 03 - 08:14 PM Hiya Breezy! Yes we were at Bedworth - translation of your posting courtesy of Anahata. Sorry for not having the usual pint-pot in my hand on Saturday - I was driving home that evening. Can't afford to take chances with my licence. See you at St Albans sometime in the new year. Guru - thanks for being more informative than Mr B. Hope to see you sometime soon! M |

Bigger venue and less background noise. Parking (and beer) at King Harry which is opposite. Doors open 8.15pm. Check with Breezy for ticket availability. |

Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,The Stage Manager Date: 09 Dec 03 - 09:54 AM Hellfire Guys, Having spent one Friday driving round St Albans trying to find where on earth you'd all gone to ground, I'm finding the content and tone of this thread extremely illuminating. I'm treating it as potential warning of things to come. In future I shall not set out for the St A's folk club without compass, sleeping bag, tent, complete set or ordanance survey maps and emergency rations in the car. I was recently persuaded to part with a not insubstantial sum of money by a group of apparently friendly buskers in the town centre. This was in return for an evening in the presence of Eliza's dad. At no time do I remember the words "Treasure Hunt" or "Wild Goose Chase" being mentioned. I just hope the old boy is still up to it. The amount of phone calls he must have had about changes of venue would be enough to tip anyone over the edge. I'm a bit old fashioned about these things, I tend to believe what is printed on the flyers. Don't worry I won't make that mistake again, instead I shall be watching this forum like a hawk. Much more of this sort of thing and I shall be tempted into strategic crisp munching during certain people's floor spots. No names...yet. 'El Greco', when you say the 3rd digit of telephone number must be greater than the average mental age of the UK government, We are talking about the combined mental age of just the cabinet here, aren't we? I mean, if we were to include all the MPs we could (theoretically) get into double figures, and then who knows who could end up with a spot at this Sunday Club Assuming of course they could find out where it had moved to. SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 09 Dec 03 - 10:37 AM Thanks What buskers? Never believe evrything you read ,especially our flyers. And just you dare crunch and munch |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,The Stage Manager Date: 09 Dec 03 - 11:59 AM Sorry Sir, You're absolutely right on the occasion of my parting with cash the buskers in question were cunningly disguised as traditional carol singers. I do though feel that as a paying punter I retain the right, should the occasion demand or standards start to slip, to crunch and munch the odd strategic crisp. SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 09 Dec 03 - 02:10 PM oh no you dont |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: Herga Kitty Date: 09 Dec 03 - 04:41 PM And whatever Breezy may have put in Unicorn about his guests for 20 February, I shall be in Sidmouth not Snorbans, like I told Breezy I would be.... If you're coming from the Radlett direction, I think the King Harry is the pub at the mini-roundabout that used to be a T-junction, where you'd turn right if you were going towards the centre and the Comfort Hotel. Kitty |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 09 Dec 03 - 06:00 PM and then there's the Legion every Sunday from 18th Jan onwards for 'Spotlight' on new faces Yes a new folk club on Sundays, floor singers all welcome, come and perform 6 times and I must give you a 'Spotlight' gig, where your name is given exposure in the Unicorn Folk Magazine On Friday 20th Feb it'll be Les Sullivan - solo - at the king H must book Herga Kitty too. Watch out for details 16th Jan Jeremy Taylor 23rd Winter Wilson 30th Bob Fox Tickets already on sale and if we need more space then we could be be in the Church Hall opposite the King H |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: Moses Date: 10 Dec 03 - 06:40 AM Breezy You might like to tell the good folks the address of your new Sunday night folk club that is starting on 18th January. You could even, if you feel like being really helpful, give directions on how to get there! "The Legion" is just a tad too vague for the average non-Snorbens resident. |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 10 Dec 03 - 06:35 PM The British Legion then |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 10 Dec 03 - 06:46 PM St Stephens tonight for Martin Carthy 8.00 |

Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,The Stage Manager Date: 11 Dec 03 - 07:33 AM Oh Great! Now the club is not only moving through space, but time as well. I'm aiming to catch up with last night's session tomorrow, assuming of course I can bump start the tardis of course. SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 11 Dec 03 - 07:58 AM no sleeps while we're on Played ref, even a late whistle is better than none. Tomorrow you're a shepherd!! If you go to the redders singaround please let them know that they can pay on the door. I'll go if I get the time. I think the stage manager ought to join mudders. Where am I? |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: Hamish Date: 11 Dec 03 - 08:50 AM This just might be a useful Multipmap link for the King Harry |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,The Stage Manager Date: 11 Dec 03 - 09:38 AM Sorry Breezy, can't help with your "Where am I". You seem to be right off NASA's radar right now. We were rather hoping you might make a brief landing at the King Harry in St Albans tomorrow evening, seeing as you got us all into this and have got the cash. Hopefully you'll be lining yourself up for re-entry about now. Don't forget to put the heat shield on the ol' guitar case. SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: Moses Date: 11 Dec 03 - 10:15 AM Breezy Did I not say to you the other day that I thought you spent part of your existence in a parallel universe? What's it like there? Do they speak Norwegian?? (Anyone who has received a text from Breezy will know that his mobile phone is not programmed to use English) Say hello to Spock for me. |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,The Stage Manager Date: 11 Dec 03 - 11:15 AM Spock?.......Good grief! Moses, just a thought....has anyone ever seen the tops of Breezy's ears? I've always had an uneasy feeling about the way that baseball cap fits on his head. I might try taking a discreet peek or two tomorrow night. I'll let you know if I clock anything unusual. SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: My guru always said Date: 11 Dec 03 - 07:45 PM Well I'm so pissed off that I can't come along & check out Stage Manager |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: Singing Referee Date: 12 Dec 03 - 04:29 AM Sorry Breezy, didn't get to Redders, did you? Mum's in hospital in Coventry, got no bones left in her back, poor old thing, so had to go visit. Do you need help early tonight? What time? Ref. |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 12 Dec 03 - 07:24 AM I did then the Rose and crwn , usual fight. Sorry about your mum. Can you be in the King Harry by 7.30 to send em over, keep your guitar with you as its a bit ov a giveaway and not the carnation in the lapel Then come over bout 8.15, snowden starts, then there's Mo from Chile, via Lewisham !! to do 10 mins I've got redirection signs outside the hotel and notices on various listed buildings around town. Too wet to busk I'll be around the graveyard later |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,The Stage Manager Date: 12 Dec 03 - 11:32 AM "Around the Graveyard later" eh? Is that an offer? No offence but that is something I would prefer not to contemplate even for a millisecond. Or is this some sort of veiled threat? Either way I'll be bringing a crucifix and some garlic tonight just to make sure there are no misunderstandings. SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 12 Dec 03 - 08:45 PM how was it for you SM? My adversary from the Rose appeared to enjoy it, Sorry bout the bell ringers. next one Fri 16th Jan Jeremy Taylor, but where???? |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: The Stage Manager Date: 13 Dec 03 - 09:17 AM Breezy! What can I say? I found you all. And The earth moved! (well swayed gently back and fortgh as it usually does Friday & SAturday nights) It was an excellent evening, and I thought Martin C was in fine form. In an odd way you seem to get some much more than just his music. I think his love for the music and everything it stands for comes over strongly. A rare gift indeed. I have to say I'm beginning to really enjoy the weekly running gag of you and El Greco trying to get in tune together. I though the subtle change of pitch on alternate verses brought something quite indescribable to a fabulous song. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Jeremy Taylor? Don't worry I'll track you down. I don't intend missing that. Week after might be a problem. I intend being in Glasgow for Celtic Connections! SM Moses.. I got a peak at the ears, I think he must have had the operation. After last night I'm more than ever convinced the man's a renegade Vulcan who has had his logic cortex removed as punishment for persistent folk singing. |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 13 Dec 03 - 03:11 PM next Friday, for those who have withdrawel symptoms with there being no club,I've cleared the King H to test the soundproofing, come along and see what happens. Then Sat at the Legion Just lead chorus/carol singing to a willow tree, 30+ voices Last night it was the giant 300 yr old cedar, 6 voices and Graham on bagpipes next saturday I'm giving the acacia some wellie,if its dry, in front of the clock Tower, with PA!!!!! They've been dressing trees in St Albans and singing to 'em this month!!!!!!!! and very pretty they look too. Strange. |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: The Stage Manager Date: 13 Dec 03 - 06:17 PM Errrr ??!<**&!?? Breezy, have I understood this correctly? You are now regularly singing to trees. Not only that, you are soliciting total strangers to come and assist you in these seranades? OK. Whatever. I suppose it's harmless. So which trees are best at choruses? I suppose they each have favourite tunes too? SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 13 Dec 03 - 06:28 PM tomorrow its the one outside the arena And the mayor is leading everyone 4.00p.m |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: The Stage Manager Date: 14 Dec 03 - 04:54 PM So the Mayor is singing to trees now. Excellent, definitely a step in the right direction. Let's hope more of our councillors take this up. Should improve things around the city enormously. So what are you planning to sing to this Acacia on Saturday? I'll probably be in town on Saturday, so might pop by. Do you know if you can post photographs to this Forum? SM |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 14 Dec 03 - 06:53 PM and friday at the King Harry for festive songs |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,Lanfranc at the orifice Date: 15 Dec 03 - 06:38 AM Ye Gods! Storbans FC - the only Folk Club where you need a GPS to find the venue and, sometimes, an EPIRB to find your car again afterwards! The King Harry sounds like a step in the right direction (real ale and car park), the Legion's a bit cramped, the Comfort Inn should be sued for being an oxymoron of sorts, being neither especially comfortable nor yet an Inn. Breezy certainly can find them! Derek Brimstone and I were bewailing the non-smoking policy at Breezy's clubs. Neither of us could think of a single British folkie who expired untimely as a consequence of smoking - first-hand or secondhand. Drink and controlled substances, however .....! Despite the privations and the magical mystery tour element, Breezy does book some good guests, and with El Greko as a resident, how can he go wrong? I'm sure he'll find a way! Alan |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: breezy Date: 16 Dec 03 - 04:29 AM sold out for Jeremy , now taking bookings for Bob Fox 30th Jan , King H to start, with an option of St Stephens church hall,if demand exeeds 40 , over the road, after the bells. This Friday pre Christmas sing at the Harry The non-smoking policy is now common place, lets face it I save you and Brimo money. The legion is 'cosy' upstairs, so we could hear Derek, you havent done the downstairs yet! This Saturday?? |
Subject: RE: St Albans folk-song club Herts England - moving From: GUEST,The Stage Manager (At Work) Date: 16 Dec 03 - 07:20 AM WODDDJJA MEAN sold out for JT!!!**?? So if I come to this festive frolic at the K.H. on Friday Night can I grovel somewhere to acquire whatever figment of whoever's imagination it is that passes as a ticket for this event? ....for cash? OK. At a push, I might consider singing to that bloody Acacia on Saturday. Can I just be clear about this for future reference, you can either get into this folk club but can't actually find where it is, or you can find it, but can't get in 'cause it's 'sold out'. I obviously need to adjust my cerebral cortex to tune into an alternative dimension. Differential equations are easier to comprehend. Distinctly Disgruntled) SM |
