Thanks guys. Kweskin's version is very good but not the one I need.
Jim, the one you found is the correct one. I also have this snippet.

I would really like to find someone who has this cut to send me the words. I honestly can't spend$15.00 for one song. (I'm not cheap, just retired and helping the drug industry get richer.

Thanks, Jim

Mance Lipscomb's live performance of DOWNTOWN BLUES is on the Clifton Chenier/Mance Lipscomb/Lightning Hopkins album "Live! at the 1966 Berkeley Blues Festival," Arhoolie CD #484, 2000.

I transcribed this from a sound sample at Barnes & Noble :
I went downtown this morning, had a talk with the judge. (2x)
I beat my woman, judge, just like something I (heard?)
I think "having a talk with the judge" is a popular euphemism for going to trial.

I'm bringing this back again for another try. The song is Downtown Blues by Mance Lipscomb.

Arhoolie has it on cd and you can hear a snippet. I sure would like to have all the lyrics.

I know, I can buy the CD. However my music allowance and budget are used up for at least a year.

Thanks, Jim

OOPS. I was using the wrong spelling. Musato already found it in the Forum. Should be Downtown blues. Jim

Does anyone know the lyrics? You can hear a snippet of it at the above address. This is a good song. Jeep
