Subject: RE: Review: John Renbourne From: Mooh Date: 02 Dec 03 - 01:23 PM Saw him a couple of years ago and he was very good, both in concert and hosting a guitar workshop. Had drinks with him afterwards...quite gracious, inquisitive, and funny...great tales. Probably the most nervous moment of my music career was hearing him say to me, "Play something for us". I just about shit my pants, but he was very kind. I have the feeling he's not done making his mark on the world, so legend or not, the story isn't finished. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Review: John Renbourne From: Peg Date: 02 Dec 03 - 09:41 AM I saw Pentangle a few years ago at the Iron Horse in Northampton; and then Renbourne alone several years ago in Boston. Are they touring? Fantastic performers, certainly worth seeing again! I love their Maid in Bedlam album... |
Subject: Review: John Renbourne From: VIN Date: 02 Dec 03 - 06:40 AM Went to see john Renbourne, Jacquie Mcshee and John Dickinson at shaw playhouse last Sunday – superb evening! Dave jones, the mc, said the word 'legend' was sometimes overused but I agree that in this instance it is perfectly applicable. I was slightly in awe, sitting not much more than six feet away from a guy who, with the likes of Bert Jansch, Wizz Jones, Davy Graham, has influenced so many and contributed so much to british folk/blues. Still have the vinyl album 'Another Monday' with a picture of him all those years ago, sat on some stone steps with right leg perched on top of left and there he was in the same pose (how does he manage it without his foot goin 'dead'? – practise I s'pose). Jaquie still has a superb voice and delivery, accompanied or un-accompanied! Neve seen John Dickinson before, but he too was brill – great slide guitar work and hearing the three of em to-gether was something else! A must see if not seen already!! |
