From: BB

I've had a request to try to find an accordeon (sic) teacher in Bristol for a 12-yr. old, whose present teacher has had to retire for health reasons. The lad concerned is interested in folk music, is a Morris dancer and has been learning klezmer accordeon. He needs someone who is good on technique but also has an appreciation of traditional styles. All my researches have come to nought, so if anyone can help, or knows of someone who can, please respond.

I expect youve tried this, but there are three klezmer bands which show up from a search on bristol+klezmer

There are a couple of good player in Rag Morris - Check out bristol Uni web site.

I can think of a couple of oprions here. ONe is actually a school teacher.

If you can get through to them Gavin will probably be able to offer some names.

Now this is an easily misunderstood suggestion....

but if you can't find ANY help, any Recycled Muso can LEARN an accordion MOSTLY by themselves, but teaching someone an instrument that you don't play yourself is probably NOT to be recommended....

The problem is that if the lad is really a talented muso-to-be, he really needs as mentors..

1) a good musician (as many as possible around him, really!)

2) a good accordeon player (as many as possible around him, really!)

3) someone (at least one, but more is better!) knowledgable in the styles he wants to play

4) Most important, given the above, someone (one is essential!) who can communicate the love of music, and inspire the student to gain the necessary technical knowledge, and practice sufficently to gain the necessary physical skills.

Good Luck in your search!

Robin
