I am trying to track down a copy of an LP entitiled "Folk Songs of Britian - Vol. 3 - Jack of All Trades" - Caedmon 1961. The words to several songs on that album are listed here at Mudcat - and attributed to it - but I have searched high and low for the collection to no avail. Can anyone help me?

Margaret

Specialist dealers are your best bet. A quick search via http://www.google.com/ shows a copy listed at Rockinworld. The page has been up since 6th November, though.

Hi Malcolm,

THAT was truly amazing. I have been searching and writing and searching again and you sent me directly to the very album I wanted in just a few minutes. I've ordered it and paid for it and I assume that I'll receive it in short order! Thank you enormously.

Do you mind telling me how you did that Google search? I did one there and did not get the same result you did.

Marghie

Specialist dealers are your best bet and I don't have one!!

However they were also re-issued by Topic - Folk Sounds of Britain.

Series started at 12T157 for the first five volumes, 12T194 for the second five.

Regards,

Dave

A search for "jack of all trades" "folk songs of britain" (the parentheses are vital!) returned 161 hits, of which Google displayed 20. They were almost all "lyric" sites or discographies, but there were three results from dealers. One is a year-old list, another is one of those damn-fool time-wasters that lists stuff he doesn't have (in this case a cd; which of course doesn't exist at all) and Rockinworld. I've never bought from them, but I know the name, and they often have things like this. It's just practice, really; learning the best ways to ask the questions.

That should actually be practise, Malcolm.

In the UK, practise is the verb, practice ist the noun. Malcolm has used the word as a noun.

Rockinworld is generally good, but I have placed orders there only to find that the item has been sold. Sometimes I even email in advance, am told that the item is there, then place the order and am told it has been sold. The answer I got when I asked why this was is that the staff don't actually check the shelf when you email them, they just look in the database. But they don't update the database that often, so itmes that have been sold are still listed there! So the upshot is...I hope you get the album!

I wish to thank all of you for helping me with this and I'll just cross my fingers and hope that I'm the only person in the world who wanted that album - and FOUND it - since November! Thanks again, Marghie
