Here's one of his newer ones.......Tiger

BOBBITT - Tom Paxton

Oh, my wife's name is Lorena,
And you really should 'a' seen her,
She is beautiful, is what I always said.
My name is John Wayne Bobbitt
I work hard at my job, it
Was my right to have a little fun in bed.

Well, she wasn't in the mood then,
And I must've gotten rude then,
And I guess I got a little out of line.
I was finished, I was sleeping,
When Lorena came in creeping,
And she took something important that was mine.

Yes, my angry little wifey
Took her little kitchen knifey,
She did a little homemade surgery.
She took the knife I bought her,
She made me a little shorter,
And she took off with the very best of me.

She jumped into her Toyota,
She took off with my promoter,
And she knew how much I missed her when she'd gone.
Then Lorena told a coppy
Where she'd flung my little floppy,
And a very kindly doctor sewed it on.

I got back my little buddy
It's my little understudy,
And it's going to work, according to reports.
But it cowers and it cringes,
And it's tender 'round the hinges,
So I guess I'd better keep it in my shorts.

G'day,
Time flies... I saw Tom sing this early in 1995. Got to meet him as well.

Cheers,
Alan

"Put Another Log on the Fire" is a country song, recorded by Tompall Glazer (slp?).

Put another log on the fire,
Cook me up some bacon and some beans,
Go out to the car and change the tire,
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Fill my pipe and then go fetch my slippers,
And boil me up another pot of tea,
Then put another log on the fire,
And come and tell me why you're leaving me.

Don't I let you wash the car on Sundays?
Don't I warn you when you're gettin' fat?
Ain't I gonna take you fishin' with me someday"
A man cain't love a woman more than that!
Ain't I always nice to your kid sister?
Don't I take her drivin' every night?
So sit here at my feet, cause I love you when you're sweet,
And you know it ain't feminine to fight.

(Repeat first verse)

As far as I remember, 'Put Another Log on the Fire' was written by Shel Silverstein. - Susanne

Hi, Susanne - apparently, the authorship of "Log" has already been verified as Tompall Glazer - click here to see the previous discussion.
Oh, and let me make a friendly reminder to the person who so generously posted the lyrics to "Log" above - if you post lyrics that are already in the database, people start saying embarrassing things about you. There seems to be a rash of postings of lyrics that are already in the database. It's better to post a link. Click here to learn how to post links and other neat stuff.

Thanks, Joe.
Forgive my ignorance: Who is Tompall Glazer?
And how do I know Dick is right? -:)
Now - see if I can avoid that b... double-posting.

Re whether or not Dick is right--

The basis for the DT's authority is the combined collective knowledge (or ignorance) of its contributors. In this case, though, I've seen a copy of the attributed sheet music.

dick (who is ALWAYS right in matters other than the DT)

I kind of thought it was a 'given" around here that Dick is always right - otherwise, we are all but figments of a flawed imagination, right? Maybe this belongs in the "nothing" thread....
But, Dick, I was wondering why your comments of late seem to be cut off, with letters, words or phrases missing at the beginning or end of your musings (like above). I've seen that with a couple of other people, and it doesn't seem like normal typographical errors. Are our words floating off somewhere???

Tompall Glazer is a country singer/songwriter, one of the lesser known members of the "outlaws," a group which includes Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristopherson, and which has avoided pop-jazz-new age tendencies in country music, preferring traditional harmonic structures and instrumentation. This totally off the top of my head description of the outlaws comes from occasional references I have seen and heard over the past 20 years, and for which I can produce no documentation. Ergo, take this with the usual trust you place in my unsupported pedantic ramblings. --seed

Joe, feel free to slash away but know that I buy my toilet paper in bulk at Costco.

Joe- The truncation seems to be a result of my using a computer that's set up with Microsoft Explorer, and not my usual one which relies on Netscape. Don't know why, but I'l try adding a few carriage returns and see if that helps.

Many thanks, BSeed ... and Dick, please accept my abject apology for doubting your authority. I suppose sheet music is indeed more reliable that a record sleeve (where I found Shel's name). I'm developing a serious Mudcat addiction! (Hope my boss doesn't find out!) - Susanne

Actually, Bseed, Tompall Glaser (correct spelling) was part of the original Outlaws movement as portrayed on the album of the same name with Waylon, Willie, and Jesse Colter (Waylon's wife). Kris Kristoferson was not a part of that scene at that time but was associated with Waylon, Willie, and Johnny Cash about a decade later as a member of the group known as the Highwaymen.

Tompall Glaser and his brothers Jim and Chuck performed for years as the Glaser Brothers specializing in tight harmonies. They were also known for doing back-up vocals on many Marty Robbins records.

Put another Log on the Fire was written by Shel silverstein but was a hit by Tompall Glaser. The song was included in the aforementioned Outlaws album, which was the first album in the history of country music to go certified platinum.

Naw MC Fat,

You know Kinky would not log on to a song so demeaning of women. Especially since he wrote "Get You Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed." I swear that my first wife stole this LP out of my collection when we were married and destroyed it (she denies it). I just bought another copy.
