Subject: Lyr Req: Bigamist Song From: Mr Happy Date: 18 Dec 03 - 03:46 AM Anyone have the verses for this song? I don't know the title. This is the chorus: Then all his other wives came in Weeping down the aisle They had to send for extra chairs They queued for half a mile They came from near, they came from far They filled up every pew He must've been a Mormon but me mother never knew Then all his other wives came back to share the co-op & tea And they brought a lot of kids with them Who looked a lot like me Cheers, Mr H |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bigamist Song From: Leadfingers Date: 18 Dec 03 - 05:28 AM Its Keith Marsden's 'Funeral Song', Happy. I dont have the words to hand but it is in Keith's Book 'Picking Sooty Blackberries' and can be found on the C D of the same name by Cockersdale. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bigamist Song From: Leadfingers Date: 18 Dec 03 - 07:05 AM Just done a search and it can be found posted by Bill Sables in the 'Poligamy ' thread. Perhaps one of the complit (Computer Literate) people could do a blue clicky ? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bigamist Song From: Victor Meldrew Date: 03 May 07 - 09:40 AM Any discussion on "to share the co-op and tea"? I see in the full set of words posted recently that it reads "Co-op ham tea", which looks plausible. I've been listening to these words and puzzling over them for years. Of course, some of us have nothing better to do... :o( |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bigamist Song From: Victor Meldrew Date: 03 May 07 - 09:46 AM Whoops! This has all been done before. Not sure how or where I found it but the essence is that the Co-op were the funeral directors and laid on a ham-sandwich tea as part of the service. Ipso fatso. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: GUEST,jan porter Date: 03 Jan 10 - 12:37 PM I'm sure it's the co-op ham tea not the co-op and tea |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: MoorleyMan Date: 03 Jan 10 - 02:08 PM Definitely Jan. It won't make sense if it ain't! Any doubters can check it out in the Authorised Version (=Picking Sooty Blackberries)! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Carol Date: 03 Jan 10 - 04:15 PM Keith used to explain to the uninitiated - probably Southerners, what a Cop Ham tea was! Yes it was the 'standard' and probably the cheapest, funeral meal supplied by the Coop Funeral service. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: gnomad Date: 03 Jan 10 - 05:35 PM Another thread here with more on the Co-op ham theme. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: GUEST,Tig Date: 04 Jan 10 - 09:50 AM Isn't it great to hear Cockersdale have decided not to totally retire after all. You might get the chance to hear them sing it live yet Mr Happy |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Tattie Bogle Date: 04 Jan 10 - 07:23 PM They did a fabulous week-long series of workshops at Sidmouth about 3 years back: learned loads of KM songs, then did a concert of them, which quite emotional all round. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Geoff the Duck Date: 05 Jan 10 - 05:42 AM For those not from the Leeds/Bradford area, Co-Op is pronounced Kwop (short o as in shop). Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: squeezeboxhp Date: 05 Jan 10 - 08:20 AM anyone got the verse added later where father was a proud man and they had to bore a hole in the coffin lid to be able to close it |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Barbara Date: 14 Feb 11 - 09:55 PM Can anyone get me the tune for this? Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: GUEST,Pete Date: 16 Feb 11 - 04:11 AM refresh I'd also be very interested in knowing this tune |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Dennis the Elder Date: 16 Feb 11 - 09:52 AM The tune I am sure is included in the book, Picking Sooty Blackberries, which is unfortunately out of print. The song is however on the double CD of the same name which you can obtain on the Cockersdale Web Site WWW.cockersdale.com.(Sorry not mastered the blue clicky) Cockersdale have been informed that they have, unfortunately, late last year, retired from clubs, concerts and festivals, however, the good news is there is the possibility they may still appear at a few charity functions. I wish Graham, Val and John the best of luck in their retirement, they certainly deserve it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: John J Date: 16 Feb 11 - 12:47 PM In northern England, where we're all terribly poor, co-op is pronounced 'Kworp'. I've always regarded 'co-op and tea' as being a co-operative meal - a meal where the attendees bring a dish to share but the host provides the tea & coffee. Like I said, we're all terribly poor up here so we can't afford to provide food for visitors - they 'ave to bring there own. Now the Mrs JJ tells me that many Kworps would have a function room upstairs that were typically used for post-funeral bashes and the stuff they served was often referred to as 'Kworp ham'. But then she's older than me and came from an up-market area of Fallowfield. JJ |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: stallion Date: 17 Feb 11 - 11:09 AM Hu, in Scarborough it was more of a Kaw-P as in the end of maCAW and a pronouced P on the end |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Barbara Date: 19 Feb 11 - 05:11 PM I HAVE talked w Graham Pirt about ordering the CD and/or coming by a reproduction of the book if they make that happen. I was just hoping for something sooner. He did say that, while MOSTLY retired, Cockersdale will be performing in June (no, he didn't say where). Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Herga Kitty Date: 20 Feb 11 - 03:26 PM Cockersdale will be performing in Grove, Wantage, on 11 June, booked by Skipy for a fundraising concert - Folk for MS. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: JennyO Date: 13 Aug 12 - 10:57 PM We were treated to this song twice in the last 10 days - once in the Middle Bar at Sidmouth, and again last night in a pub in Sticklepath at the end of the Dartmoor festival. It was the same person both times, and he apologized to anyone who had heard it twice, but I don't hear it very often and I loved hearing it again! A couple of years ago, I think someone did it at the Wail, and as the song progressed, people were piling up chairs in a heap - it was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time! Anyway, I've found a performance of it on YouTube here. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: MoorleyMan Date: 14 Aug 12 - 07:32 AM Yes it's a brilliant song JennyO - one of Keith's best! Tho' if you don't get the right crowd it tends to "die a death"! If you're at Moira fest this weekend come & let me know and I'll sing it for you! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: JennyO Date: 30 Nov 12 - 12:52 PM Didn't go to Moira, MoorleyMan. I forget what we were doing, but it's been a whirl of festivals this year, and the rushing about isn't over yet! This last weekend gone, we went to Andrew and Carole's Gower Cwtch, and on the Sunday night, the song was sung by Snuffy. I still haven't seen anyone pile up chairs like they did at the Wail in 2010. Rob said he was itching to go and start piling up a few, but wasn't sure how the pub would feel about that :) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: nutty Date: 30 Nov 12 - 01:26 PM Threr's a new version of the song - a wonderful parody written by Malcolm Austen - based on fast food establishmentsand called "THE MUNCH" I'm sure Keith would have loved it |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: Leadfingers Date: 30 Nov 12 - 01:48 PM Doing The Munch is a rewrite of Doing The Manch , a different K M Song |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Funeral Song (Keith Marsden)^^^ From: GUEST Date: 28 Apr 17 - 02:03 AM Has anyone got the chords or melody line for this song? |
