Subject: Not much help From: GUEST,mike Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:17 PM Yesterday I posted a request looking for some lyrics of a song I think was entitled "My old stomping grounds". I was told this site was known for this sort of request. Do you guys only try when the request comes from someone within your inner group?? Mike |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: The Borchester Echo Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:24 PM Speaking personally, I didn't reply because I don't know the song. If people know, they reply, if they don't, they won't. *That's* how it works, Guest Mike. |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: Sorcha Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:25 PM IF you'll notice, here! I did try. If it's not out there, I can't find it......and, patience has its virtues....sometimes we find things in minutes, sometimes day, months or years. |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: GUEST,MMario Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:28 PM Mike - it is the holiday season and many people are not reading and posting. Also - if we don't KNOW the song it can take longer. sometimes much longer. Sorcha posted to your previous thread here that she was unable to find anything. I myself bombed out on searches on google and through the levy sheet music site. I just didn't feel it was necessary to post negative results. 24 hours and 10 minutes after your first post on that thread - no, we haven't located your lyrics. Sorry. But please do give us some time - EVERYONE who answers questions here does so on a voluntary basis and sometimes it takes a while. (years for some questions in fact!) |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: Willie-O Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:28 PM Yup. Outsiders need not apply. Seriously though, Mike, the Mudcat is a lifestyle, not a one-stop shop (although a lot of those requests are answered almost immediately--while the original asker is nowhere to be found). Take a few minutes to register, then if you start a thread you should make a habit of clicking on the "Trace Thread" option. The thread will then be on your personal page forever. If it drops off the radar (the default one-day Forum listing), it is perfectly good form to post another message on the thread with the simple content "refresh". Then we don't have to hunt around looking for your original request... As for the song, isn't that a Stompin' Tom Connors signature piece? geez, you must be a fellow Canuck. Stick around, we're gettin' swamped by incomprehensible Brits... best Willie-O |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: Cluin Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:32 PM I can second what Sorcha said above, Mike. I've posted a few requests for info and/or song lyrics here. Some were answered very quickly and one took several months but someone finally came through here. Give it a chance, man. The folks that frequent this site are pretty damn nice and knowledgeable. There's no "in" group. Good luck and Merry Christmas! |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: Cluin Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:34 PM It didn't look like the Stompin' Tom song, Willie-O. I didn't recognize it, either. |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: Willie-O Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:39 PM Here's a bunch of Stompin' Tom lyrics but not that one... http://www.seeklyrics.com/view_songs/Stompin_Tom.html |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: Willie-O Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:47 PM Mike, try more details. What country and region are you in, where is your dad from, what style of music? Remember this is an international site. I still think it sounds like Stompin' Tom. Cluin to the contrary as usual but he's probably drunk agin, unlike me. (urp) W-O Mike? Hey, Mike? |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: clansfolk Date: 19 Dec 03 - 01:22 PM depending where Mike comes from he may have gone to Bed!!!!! so don't shout too loud W-O ps it takes more than that to raise the hackles of us Brits - just leave the tea alone though! Pete ;-) |

Subject: RE: Not much help From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Dec 03 - 01:39 PM If you have any information about the song Mike is looking for, please put it in his original thread: My Old Stomping Grounds.Maybe it would be a good idea to post what efforts we've made, even if we haven't found the song. Then people won't keep looking in the same places.Mike, if you don't get an answer right away, the best thing to do is to go back to your original thread a day or two later, and post a new message to the old thread. That will put your request on our forum menu for another 24 hours. If you need to find an old thread, the easiest tool to use is the "filter" on our Forum Menu. Just put part of the thread title in the filter box, and set the date back. Stomp will find your thread very easily. We're quite good at finding old songs, but we don't always have success. See our Unanswered Requests section to see where we haven't been able to find songs. All the best to you. -Joe Offer- |
