I dunno but those blue Pentium guys, are they blind? If so I might be able to get them a gig doing some mean gospel.

One morning as I was out shopping
Though you'll find it hard to believe
A little blue man stepped out of the crowd
And urgently tugged at my sleeve....

And he was singing the whites, too.

"Am I Blue?" The old Clarke-Akst song comes to mind whenever I hear blue mentioned. First sung by Ethel Waters, brought back not too long ago by Bette Midler.

I do recollect an OLD film called (would you believe) Rhythm And Greens. And I was there when white men in England were singing the blues- Mike Cooper, Dave Kelly and his sister Joanne and even my old mate Ian A Anderson to name just a few from the nineteen sixties UK blues revival.

The bluest white blues singer has to be ... Bill Munroe singing 'Blue Moon Of Kentucky'

Sidebar....

Ain't Right Whites

Woke up this morning
Someone done towed my Cadillac
Said I looked out this morning
Someone done towed my Cadillac
There's a Ford Pinto sitting in its space
Every time that I look back

Someone drank my forty
They left me some Heineken
Yeah, someone drank my forty
They left me some Heineken
Lord knows I don't drink no foreign stuff
Looks like I'm on the wagon once again

This just ain't right
This just ain't right
This just ain't right
Baby, looks like I got the whites

Looked in the mirror
Hairs' as straight as it could be
Looked again in my mirror
Hairs' as straight as it could be
Must be some kind of evil curse
Don't like what's happening to me

Losing my rhythm baby
Gonna be the last verse of this song
Lord I just can't keep the beat
Gonna be the last verse of this song
Starting to look like Casper the ghost
You know this whole deal is just plain wrong

This just ain't right
This just ain't right
This just ain't right
Baby, looks like I got the whites

Good post for helping me to understand the meaning of this thread with less chaos, Chief!

Up to that point, the only 'blue' thing on this page I understood was the "blue clicky" link, down below and to the right.

If you type "sing the whites" into Google, you'll find plenty of places to buy the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band recording of "Can Blue Men Sing The Whites", but I couldn't find the lyrics anywhere

That explains this quote from Les in an '01 thread that I searched for before your post Snuffy.

"Can a blue man sing the whites? BDDDB". I guess he added one-too-many D's for the name of the band. I still never heard of them.

I recall the name "Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band" as being attached to some notable single record of the last half-century, but can't remember the name of their one big one-hit-wonder tune. Anybody?

(Note that making "Doo Dah" into two words validates Les's abbreviation back in '01, as to number of D's.)

Yes, but he would have to take care not to white wash his blues. The temperature would be far too high, and staining could result.

Seriously - there were some white men singing blues, such as Dick Justice and Frank Hutchison, around 1930. As to Can Blue Men Sing the Whites ...

1) I was lying in my bed, pulled the silken sheets up tight,
I gotta keep my strength, I've gotta do a show tonight.
I have a sip of coffee while I'm taking in the news,
Don't need to have a shave because I've got to sing the blues

CH) Woo - oo ee, woo - oo ee, woo ee
Can Blue Men Sing the Whites, or are they hypocrytes
For singing Woo oo ee woo ee

2) can't remember except
... I light a big cigar
Because I like to look like Nimrod when I'm riding in my car

3) And now it's getting near the time I've gotta make the scene
I take off my dark grey mohair suit, put on my dirty jeans
the band comes round to pick me up, I holler "Hello boys"
I've got to let my hair down if I'm gonna make some noise

closely related to the Fleetwood Mac Chicken Shack John Mayall Can't Fail Blues, recorded by the Liverpool Scene, aka the Jethro Tull Bellyful Savoy Brown Reach Me Down Blues
