This song was written and recorded by the Bailes Brothers back in the 40's. It's easy to understand *except* for the third line of the chorus:

Oh, sinner, go pray, ask forgiveness, my friend
For that judgment day is surely coming 'round.
Get [I]ready for that ??? ??? all coming down
We're living in the last days now.

Can anyone fill in the blanks for me?

Duh! I realized I don't need someone who knows the song, just someone with a good ear!

Well, a 'good ear' would not be me...I am the deaf lady. You need Jim Dixon, I think....I did look, but 'last days' sent me to a LOT of fundamentalist Bible sites....no help.

Nailed it in two, despite the short clip depriving me of hearing how their accent works. I'm sure I have it right--- didn;t even need to use Pacemaker to slow it down. Gotta have a good ear AND know yer theology. I'se a perfessional! :~)

Now how about the rest of the lyric, and an MP3 so I can hear it to learn it? We do that kinda stuff weekly, in our church service. (Join Mudcat, PM me an email addy, I can send you an addy that will accept the MP3).....

That's almost what I'd heard except that I made the mistake of being certain that I'd heard "all" when the word was "saw". I couldn't figure out what "city John's all comming down" meant.

The Record Lady's copy skips. The word that's missing is "deeply"

post-1923 makes me anxious. That's why, for example, I've posted the lyrics to all of Charlie Poole's songs on my website, but no Carter Family lyrics. Different comfort levels for different people.
