Subject: Lyr Req: All good children say thank you
From: GUEST,Ken M.
Date: 28 Dec 03 - 11:55 PM

I recall parts of a pleasant song that I heard as a child . . . one verse went something like this:
I gave my donkey some hay
And my donkey said thank you
All good donkeys say thank you too
Just as all good children do.

There was also a verse about a dog.
Does anyone recognize this song? Do you know the complete lyrics, the title, the performer or writer of the song? I'd characterize it as a manners lesson written as a song for young children. I wondered if Gene Autry could have been the singer, but I haven't found a connection.
I would appreciate any help in finding the source of this fond memory.

Gave my dog a bone
And my doggie said, "Thank you"
All good doogies say, "Thank you"
Just like all good children do.

All good doggies say, "Thank you"
All good pets say, "Thank you" too
Just like all good children do.

I am also looking for this song.

I had this on an album called Barnyard Songs, which I played so much I wore out. This would've been in the early 60s. Been looking for a replacement but can't find one.

You can hear this song on YouTube.

THANK YOU
Written by Ritter – Bergdahl – Harford.
As recorded by Tex Ritter [1], 1947.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! [2]
All good pets say thank you too,
Just like all good children do.

I gave my dog a bone,
And my dog said thank you. [3]
All good dogs say thank you, [3]
Just like all good children do.
All good dogs say thank you. [3]
All good pets say thank you too,
Just like all good children do.

I gave my horse some oats,
And my horse said thank you. [3]
All good horses say thank you, [3]
Just like all good children do.
All good horses say thank you. [3]
All good dogs say thank you. [3]
All good pets say thank you too,
Just like all good children do.

I gave my hen some corn,
And my hen said thank you. [3]
All good hens say thank you, [3]
Just like all good children do.
All good hens say thank you. [3]
All good horses say thank you. [3]
All good dogs say thank you. [3]
All good pets say thank you too,
Just like all good children do.

I gave my donkey some grass.
And my donkey said thank you. [3]
All good donkeys say thank you, [3]
Just like all good children do.
All good donkeys say thank you. [3]
All good hens say thank you. [3]
All good horses say thank you. [3]
All good dogs say thank you. [3]
All good pets say thank you too,
Just like all good children do.

I gave my polly a cracker.
And my polly said thank you. [3]
All good pollies say thank you, [3]
Just like all good children do.
All good pollies say thank you. [3]
All good donkeys say thank you. [3]
All good hens say thank you. [3]
All good horses say thank you. [3]
All good dogs say thank you. [3]
All good pets say thank you too,
Just like all good children do.

I gave my bird some feed,
And my bird said thank you. [3]
All good birds say thank you, [3]
Just like all good children do.
All good birds say thank you. [3]
All good pollies say thank you. [3]
All good donkeys say thank you. [3]
All good hens say thank you. [3]
All good horses say thank you. [3]
All good dogs say thank you. [3]
All good pets say thank you too,
Just like all good children do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! [2]
Just like all good children do.

1. At least the record label says "Tex Ritter" but Ritter's voice is not prominent on the record.

2. Each "Thank you" is sung by a different voice in what I take to be a male quartet.

3. At the end of each of these lines, there is an appropriate animal sound, e.g. "Arf! Arf!" "Hee haw," etc.
