Subject: Lyr Add: JELLY JELLY (Josh White Sr) From: ddw Date: 31 Dec 03 - 06:54 PM Hey dw, I pulled out some JW and copied this out for you. The lyrics show he's playing off his bass player, Al Hall, and the other voice you hear on the GREAT GOD ALMIGHTYs is Sam Gary. I think he recorded this more than once, so other versions may differ. cheers, david Jelly, Jelly Hello baby, I had to call you on the phone I hollered "Hello baby, I had to call you on the phone" You know I feel so lonesome Josh wants his baby home Now it's a downright rotten, lowdown dirty Yes, it's a downright rotten, lowdown dirty shame You mistreat me, baby, And god knows I'm not to blame Well it's jelly, jelly, jelly — Jelly stays on my mind Hey, lordy momma — GREAT GOD ALMIGHTY Jelly, jelly, jelly — Jelly, jelly stays on my mind Jelly roll killed my mommy, ran my daddy stone blind I'm gonna take you baby (evil chuckle), stretch you 'cross my big brass bed Hey, lordy momma — GREAT GOD ALMIGHTY I'll take you baby, stretch you 'cross my big brass bed I'll rub your head, baby, till your toes, toes turn cherry red I've got nineteen women living in Al's neighborhood (His wife don't know it) — GREAT GOD ALMIGHTY I've got nineteen women in Al's neighborhood Eighteen are fools, that other gal ain't no goddamn good (chuckle) But she makes me holler "ooh, baby, ooh, baby, ooh" She makes me holler "ooh, baby, ooh, baby, ooh" I love you, baby — What more can a poor man do?
