Subject: Wher Are You Going Lucy

A buddy just played a song from a tape he's had for several years. It's a beautiful duet with the first verse starting with the line " where are you going Lucy". Not much to go on, but it's driving us crazy. I don't recognize the singers, and I thought I knew everybody. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the next line is, "I just wanted to play with the band, Ricky. Wahhhhhh!"

Sorry, best I could do.

I'm pretty sure you mean "Jack and Lucy", although I don't know who sings it. The first half of each verse starts with "Where are you going Lucy", and the second half starts with "What's that you're saying Jack". It tells the story of two people's love starting with marriage at a young age, through divorce, remarriage, and death.

I originally tried to c/p the lyrics from the HTML page, but the line breaks didn't come through. I'm lazy....

Hugh Moffatt's original recording of 'Jack and Lucy' - a duet with his sister, Katy - was on his 'Loving You' album on the Philo label [Philo 1111]. It was later reissued on an excellent compilation CD titled 'The Way Love Is'- tracks selected mostly from 'Loving You' and 'Troubadour' albums - on Columbia CD 468965 2. As written and recorded by Moffatt, the third stanza differs from what is given in the transcription linked above by Sorcha:

Where are you goin', Lucy, what you doing girl
Come back here, lie back down
For I want to feel your heart beat
Oh, Lucy, lie with me a while

Words and music by Hugh Moffatt, copyright 1981 Boquillas Canyon Music/Atlantic Music Corporation.
