Micheal, it's gorgeous! Can I make a bit of a confession? To understand this, you must take into account that we've been playing together for five years. Over that time we have made changes to personnel and material, we've done crappy gigs, had wonderful nights, and share a huge amount of memories. And it's culminated in this. Whilst driving back with the cd on in the car, thinking about all this, David Oakley's Abbefeale actually caused me to burst into tears. I always knew it would do that to me one day. Today was the day, when I least expected it.

Thankyou, David. From the bottom of my heart. And Mick, and Andy, and Nikki, and John Smith, for giving me so much joy over the last five years. I shall treasure that time forever. Sounds corny, but I wanted to tell you that.

Long live the music. See you at Durty Nellies next saturday for more of the same.

Mick

There is a session in the Sun every Sunday (ie it has reverted to what was the setup before the "Nellies" session went there). However, I'm not running anything except Tuesday nights - Keith is running all of the sessions on Sundays but I get there most weeks. Last Sunday built up very nicely and was a good mix of folk, blues and country.

For your amusement, people, try to picture me in wide flares, a flowery top, a silver wig, hat, and shades, playing 20th Century Boy with a seven piece band. There was a point on Saturday night when I thought "Is this what my life has been leading up to?"

My musical integrety is in tatters, but hey, it was fun!

Mr Danvers, I am most interested in how you define who or what provides a REAL service to the folk community. I suppose I'll never get an answer 'cos if he's that pissed off with us he won't look at the thread again.

Sloppy punctuation, Simon, old love, but a valid enough opinion.

I won't be drawn on how I got hold of it, but I have heard the new CD, and I have to admit it is effing excellent. The musicianship is kneetremblingly good, and the mixing is near perfect. Watson's accordion and Dean's guitar are the bedrock that the fiddles, whistles, flutes and mandolins of Oakley and Williamson augment beautifully, and the product is ear sex. Oh, and there's some singing too! McGarry is on fine form, and the production has a live feel that is redolent of the PTH pub sound, crackling with joy. I have made some stumbling attempts at recording, and have done enough to know that these guys must have been lucky enough to all be on top performing form on the day they happened to have the studio booked, and you can hear all them lifting each other, and playing out of their skins. So there.

What a totally waste of time in an otherwise brilliant site, are there really no telephones in this part of the world.
I assume thid thread is to promote an English Irish band, but if
they are so popular in England it must be a very well kept secret.
Get a life lads. If this is English humour it's gone back a little
since the great days.
To Joe Offer and the guy's who provide a real service to the folk music community, many thanks.

On a more serious note, we have been invited to a CD launch later this month at which we will no doubt buy at least one copy of said CD

..............just an idea .........

De-mister dreams about me in lycra - I dream that Judith Chalmers is sucking custard out of my navel. These I trust, are not related. I plan to be around for a bit, Linda Kelly, but as they they say in the shellfish business, you never really know.

Oaklet, I don't want to worry you, but in Cold Mountain your namesake is mortally injured in scene 2 and dead by scene 3- he lies on his death bed whilst having the strains of fiddle music played to him. I saw no evidence of purple lycra, but other than that it was uncannily like I envisioned your own death bed scene to be (not for many years to ocme I sincerely hope!)

It must have been my regional accent - a legacy from the picturesque West Midlands. I am after all, the only one round here who can understand every word of what Karen Thompson is going on about.

The CD might sound even better without the ghetto blaster - cordless phone - mobile (cellphone) link. I suspect that the bits with me on it will be the highlights. As usual.
