Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: the lemonade lady Date: 10 Jan 04 - 06:50 AM As you've probably gathered by now if you've looked at the web site, we are now back to two breweries in BC. The famous Three Tuns is now bubbling again. We weren't going to have a folk club this year, but the requests have been rolling in for this event so were are having one. It won't have any electrics and first come first served. If anyone wants to perform, PM me and I'll sort it out. Sally and The Shot Dogs will be appearing of course! Sal |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: the lemonade lady Date: 10 Jan 04 - 07:13 AM Oh Schantieman, you are so chivalrous. Just a wee point, it's actually a Folk Weekend not a festival. The PRS get very excited if you call it a 'festival'! Sal |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: the lemonade lady Date: 27 Apr 04 - 06:32 AM Just to remind everyone that it's getting closer. Arrrrgh! The things I still have to do! Stewarding anyone? I'd be really grateful. Sal |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: the lemonade lady Date: 07 May 04 - 07:41 AM Hello, anyone out there coming to this then??? Be quick, I think the campsite will fill up pretty quickly! Sal |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: the lemonade lady Date: 14 May 04 - 07:15 AM Life's hard. We have very little money to spend on the things that we enjoy. I asked a some people at the big folk festivals what they like and dislike about the events. They dislike paying a lot of money to camp, and watching concerts they're not really interested in, when all they really want to do is go to the pubs and join in with the sessions and singarounds. This gave me an idea. What about organising a fringe without the main event. So here it is; Bishop's Castle Folk Weekend. This is our third year; the last two have been very successful. An event that is inexpensive, and a chance to sing , play and tell stories and poetry. An opportunity to step outside of life for a while and have fun. I know that if you join in and sing with lots of other people it's very difficult to feel unhappy at the same time. So if you enjoy singing in the bath or when washing up, this event in Bishop's Castle on 11th, 12th and 13th June is designed for you. The folk weekend is a throw-back to the days of music and song while drinking ale in your favourite pub. We have both English and Irish music sessions, and singarounds too. Come and stay on our campsite. (£12.00 per adult, Free for kids under 14, for the weekend) Leave your car and have fun in this pretty little market town on the Welsh border. Listen and join in with the old songs and music that will echo in your mind. Chorus songs to swing your pint pot. This is a weekend to take advantage of all Bishop's Castle has to offer. Real ale brewed on site, good food in the pubs and restaurants, swimming pool, interesting shops and the songs and music of Old England. Do you like folk/rock ceilidh music? We have it on the Friday night at the Three Tunns Public House. (£6.00 per adult under 14s free when accompanied by an adult). We present Ardvaark from Coventry, returning by popular request, because they are a brilliant ceilidh band that must not be missed. On the campsite Jan's Blackboard Van from Cornwall will be entertaining the children, again back by popular demand, with weird and wonderful imaginative things to do. You can paint her van any colour you like, it's a big blackboard! Her labyrinth and sausage socks will boggle your minds! This year we've asked local historians Mike and Terry, (who run a free open Rhyme and Tell session on the 4th Sunday of the month in the Six Bells) to run a session for us. So come and listen or bring your stories, poetry and prose and join 'The Winged Word' in the Town Hall, along with craft stalls from England and Wales in our Trade Market. Come and relax for the weekend. Contact Sally on 01588 638438 or visit www.bcfolkweekend.co.uk |

Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: Hawker Date: 21 May 04 - 03:43 PM Sal, I am having a knee operation on the 7th of June and may not be terribly mobile, if I can persuade KB to drive all the way there and back we would love to come, but I will have to see how I feel..... are the pubs a long walk from the camp site? Do we have to book in before or can we just turn up? I have it on good authority that it is worth the journey from Cornwall. Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: the lemonade lady Date: 24 May 04 - 12:37 PM Wow Hawker, what can I say? The singaround isn't that far from the campsite, about 50yds. You can just turn up it should be ok. I do hope the op goes well and that you feel up to the long journey. Sal |

Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: GUEST Date: 05 Jun 04 - 11:54 AM For those who are (still) wondering ... Bishop's Castle is in Shropshire, in England. Might be a good idea to put it on the website front page. |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: Snuffy Date: 05 Jun 04 - 12:23 PM People would never guess that from the UK in the website address, www.bcfolkweekend.co.uk/ would they? |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: Mr Red Date: 05 Jun 04 - 01:03 PM Might be a good idea not to have to click to get the info. I always reckon that good websites say what they are on the first page, right at the top, to catch the curious, or uncommitted. The whole point about not knowing where BC (apart from Shropshire) is that it tells you it is a sleepy little town far from suburbia that is not overrun by commerce. It has two real ale breweries. and two real Shropshire lemonade purveyors. So good they write songs about it. There is a ceilidh which I probably won't be at - torn muscle (ceilidhing). But I have just finished redifying the crutch!!!!! |

Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: the lemonade lady Date: 07 Jun 04 - 07:56 AM Whoops we have an alteration to the web site... The ceilidh is on the FRIDAY 11th June NOT Saturday night. Please tell anyone you know who's coming. Thanks Sal <8-/ |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: Mr Red Date: 07 Jun 04 - 08:01 AM Still say the first page should be the info page. If there is a technical reason for it not being so there is a technical fix. See how cresby.com does it for one solution. Torn muscle getting better already. |
Subject: RE: Bishop's Castle FF 11-13 June 2004 From: Llanfair Date: 07 Jun 04 - 05:23 PM I'll be there, in the market hall, selling my crafts. I'm still trying to get someone to cover so I can come and have a listen and a sing. Cheers, Bron. |
