I've just received details of this in the post, and as Emma_B hasn't yet got round to announcing this on Mudcat I thought I'd pass this on. It is a very friendly day out, with some very good singing in the singarounds.

FEBRUARY FOLK DAY

As in previous years this is being held at Hoole Community Centre, Chester.

The programme for the day starts at 12 noon with a singaround hosted by Solan, which finishes in time for the main concert at 2pm featuring Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, Marie Little, Solan and Roy Clinging.

After the concert finishes at 5pm Roy Clinging will host a teatime singaround. The evening's events include a Ceilidh with Five Speed Box at 8pm and a Folk Club hosted by Full House from 9pm. There will also be a session room (next to the bar) for musicians. The evening ends at around 11:30pm.

There will be a real ale bar, and home-cooked snacks and hot drinks will also be available. A supervised playroom for children will be open during the afternoon concert.

Tickets:(Cheques payable to CHESTER FOLK SURVIVORS)
Afternoon £8, Evening £8, All Day £14
(Children aged 10-18: Afternoon £4, Evening £4, All Day £7)
CONCESSIONARY Afternoon £7, Evening £7, All Day £12

Enquiries (with SAE please) to: 21 Dee Fords Avenue, Chester, CH35UP Tel: 01352 762931

The day was another success despite the cold weather, although the venue was very chilly to begin with. I was especially impressed by the performance of Nancy Kerr and James Fagan (with the support of Tim van Eyken). They worked hard doing a concert set, and a 'meet the artist' session, and finished with a great floor spot at the folk club in the evening. They played with great skill and enthusiasm that was thoroughly invigorating, and I for one felt happy that the future of folk music is assured in the capable hands of these and their contemporaries. Great stuff!!

There was a duplicate thread about this event with some negative comments. This was an event well worth supporting.

Agree & retract statements in other thread.

As it turned out, 'twas an excellent event- but a bit chilly temperature wise to begin with.Had early music & snog session muffled up in hat & coat.

Managed to have great time though in fringe sessions + plenty of tasty real all!
