They were definitely all monologues or recitations on the CD and I'm fairly sure they were all humorous. Damn, wish I'd bought it at the time! It's for a present for a Geordie friend.

There are a few of the older monologues or "recitations" published including "The Cullercoats fish-wife and the Census Man" by Fred Gascoigne and "Je ne Comprend Pas" (unattributed) and many of the music hall songs such as "Oh! Leuk a' the Sowljor" have more patter than song. However, not being a Geordie, I wouldn't attempt to get my tongue around them as they are written in dialect. The Geordie Bible by Andrew Elliot is also an hilarious source

Jennifer -- were they humourous monologues (eg Geordie shaggy dog stories) or more serious? I have the Northumbria Anthology and it has one monologue type track by Johnny Handle. I'll check with my sources in the North East and see what they know.

When we were in Northumberland last year I saw a CD of Northumbrian monologues, but the visitor centre I saw them in is shut for the winter. I'm sorry I can't remember any more details than that. (I bought a CD by a local band called Ushna instead)
Has anyone seen this CD and could tell me the record label or even better a shop that stocks it that I could ring and ask them to send me one?
Bit of a long shot, sorry. It is kind of folky even if it's not music.
