Subject: 'Saga' Derby Folk Group info required From: TasKiNG Date: 17 Jan 04 - 04:55 PM Hi, I am looking for any info about the folk group "SAGA". I know they were from Derby and had 3 members ( John Squire, Paul Richardson & Chris Mordey ). I have one of their LP's ( Sweet Peg O' Derby ) and wondered if they recorded any more LP's. I am also looking for any photographs of them performing together. Any info about them or their songs ( lyrics, chords etc ) would be very much appreciated. |

Subject: RE: 'Saga' Derby Folk Group info required From: Lancashire Lad Date: 18 Jan 04 - 01:14 AM Sweet Peg was the group's second LP, the first being self titled and issued the year before on the same label (westwood). As I recall they also featured heavily on an album by (I think) Jon Raven. Hope it helps |

I think their email address is folkwaves@bbc.co.uk - you can also search for the programme's website for other contact details. Hope this helps. Subject: RE: 'Saga' Derby Folk Group info required From: GUEST,Peter johnsquire@btinternet,com Date: 21 Jan 04 - 09:56 AM I think I may have a copy of the first album. These albums do have some value as they are very collectable in Germany. I cannot run you a copy at present as I do not own a turntable. I do have a studio now but we are all digital. Both albums were produced in the late sixties, its great to think someone is still enjoying the music. John squire Fiddle |

Subject: RE: 'Saga' Derby Folk Group info required From: TasKiNG Date: 21 Jan 04 - 11:33 AM Hi John, Thanks for getting in contact. A copy of the album would be great. I have a turntable connected to my PC so could copy it that way or could lend you my turntable. Are you planning another visit to the Derby Gaol Folk Club soon as I go there regularly ( This friday for burns night actually ). I managed to contact Paul Richardson via a friend ( tony clarke ) at work but he has lent his album to somebody. I can be contacted directly via tas_king@hotmail.com The 'sweet peg O Derby' album was my introduction to folk music. I am hoping that The Wizard of Alderley Edge is on the 1st album as this is one of my favorite songs. Cheers Dave |

The band may remember I booked them for Worcester College in the early 70's and they were on the same bill as the Boys of the Lough. If any of the band rad this it would be great to meet up again my email is Robert.heath@zen.co.uk. Great times, thanks guys for all the gtreT times and the music which I still listen to. Robert |

Subject: RE: 'Saga' Derby Folk Group info required From: GUEST,Paul Richardson Date: 20 May 11 - 12:39 PM Robert Heath - I do remember that concert with Boys of the Lough. Were Shirley & Dolly Collins on the bill as well? We were a bit naughty then as in we had sunk a few bottles of vino on the way to Worcester. Certainly loosened my fingers up a bit! |

Subject: RE: 'Saga' Derby Folk Group info required From: SylviaN Date: 20 May 11 - 04:06 PM Sorry I didn't spot this thread sooner. Roger Warren, although not performing, is still a very keen folkie and he and his wife, Frances, together with their daughter Tracey are promoting folk music at their real ale pub in Horsley Woodhouse, Derbyshire. Any of you that are anywhere nearby, you should visit The Old Oak Inn. It was voted Camra Pub of the East Midlands in 2009. They also own (family run business) a micro-brewery, where their son Richard is the wizard brewer. There is a music session on every last Tuesday of the month and Keith and I front concerts there about four times a year, at Roger's request. The next concert is on the 22nd June and the guests are Gary and Vera Aspey. If you want more information, you can visit Facebook and search for either "Old Oak Live!" for the concerts or "The Old Oak Inn" for other events happening at the pub. Here is the blue clicky thing for the Gary and Vera Aspey concert next month. Cheers Sylvia |
