Glad it went well. Hope the bride and groom have many many years of fun like the wedding.

Thanks for all the help guys, we finally finished up playing the file directly from a laptop through the pa system. Worked ok.

The wedding and reception were fantastic. 160 guests all sat down on 16 tables on the lawn in front of the brides parents house (8 acre property}.

It truly was a day to remember.

They're now off touring New Zealand for 3 weeks.

Cheers

Bugsy

Quick and not do dirty
Double click on the Volume control and you should see more than one volume control, chose Options > Properties
and tick Recording and below tick Mix (or all if unsure.
Start > Programs > Entertainment > Sound recorder will give you the recorder app.
play the midi on the computer and start recording.
save file as YOURNAME.WAV
burn an Audio CD (using Nero or somesuch) using the file you have just recorded.

The Mix Channel is the important one, Recording level is controlled from the recording volume &/or midi volume (uncheck any mutes!!!!)

AND as for removing the singer from a CD there is software available. What it does is assume that the singer is in the middle (but maybe you can chose where) and effectively removes anything from the vicinity of the middle - which will include her guitar if she is playing it.
No I don't know any trade names - I just know they exist - I use SoundForge for audio files and can't remember that option - if I remain silent it is because I found the feature and I have removed myself **BG**

Quick and dirty: Play the midi on your computer and record it with your tape machine. This converts the noise the midi plays to an audio (analog) signal on the tape. Play the tape into your soundcard and "record" to the hard drive. The computer should record it as a .wav, which you can burn onto a CD that your CD player probably can handle. (Test it, on the player you plan to use, to make sure it works.)

There are "better" ways of doing it, but most of them require software, and instructions somewhat specific to the particular program(s) you have available.

Alternative: If you've got one of those newfangled portable keyboards, or another midi "instrument," some of them can play the midi directly from a floppy disk.

Quite a few church organs can take a midi on a floppy disk and play it back for you, but you'd need to check it out with the organist (some of them are a little "possesive" about "their" isntrument, among other reasons) - and test first. (And you didn't say its a "church wedding, of course.)

John

OK, So she got her friend to record her a midi file of the backing, but when I try to burn it onto a CD it won't play.

Any ideas how I convert a midi file and burn it onto a CD so it plays on a standard CD player???

Cheers

She's got her heart set on this song, one of the guys who used to play keyboards in a band with her reckons he can maybe get some sort of accompaniment together - Fingers Crossed.

If it don't exist, then nobody's gonna find it, next best thing would be to send the CD with it on to some friendly musicians and see if they'll learn it for the event.(Seems odd suggesting live music is the "next best thing" to karaoke) alternitively you could persuade your D.I.L. to perform it acapella.
I found a karaoke site with a track with the same title by Deanna Carter here but I don't think it's what you want.
good luck bugsy, hope you find it.

Or, from the way your request was phrased, it could be you're after HELP, by the Beatles, which might be an appropriate enough song for a wedding...

The girl who can't say no is from "Oklahoma!" Please let me know if that's the song somebody wants to sing to her groom at their wedding.

Could it be "I`m just a girl who can`t no"
            "I`m in a terrible fix"
I may be mistaken but I think it featured in the musical western, "Annie get your gun" or some very similar production.

I've just cross-checked the lyrics and it's a different song. So it's back to the drawing boared I'm afraid.

Still thanks for your efforts Sorcha.

My boy's getting married on February 7th and his "Bride-to-be" wants to sing this song to him at the reception.

Trouble is, she can't find an instrumental version or backing disc anywhere.

I know this has nothing to do with folk music, but I just wondered if anyone out there could tell me if such a product exists, have you seen one for sale anywhere?

Big problem being that most of your are in the Northern Hemisphere and I'me "Down Under" in Australia. Still, If it's available where you live, I should be able to order it over here. (One lives in Hope)

Cheers
