There's a song by Ira and Charles Louvin on a Lucy Kaplansky CD called The Angels Rejoiced Last Night - last verse is

The angels rejoiced in heaven last night
I heard my Daddy pray
"Dear God make it right."
He was smiling and singing
With tears in his eyes
While mother with the angels
Rejoiced last night

Is this the one?

Ralph Stanley did it, but I didn't find the tune. Assume you already have lyrics. If not, I did find them.

Is it, The songbirds are singing in heaven tonight,
Theyre happy because you are there....?

Sweetheart I recall the day I first met you
I wonder if you remember the same.
We talked of the love we had for each other
and longed for the day we'd change your sweet name.
Oh I can still hear your voice in the evening.
I see your sweet face, your blue eyes so bright.
God took you away and left me so lonely.
The angels are singing in heaven tonite.

This is the song ....I just can't find the tune.
Thanks everyone for trying.

Mary

It is not a Carter Family song, but was written by Carter Stanley. That may be the source of the confusion. If you care to PM me with your email address, I will attempt to send you an MP3 file of the Stanley Brothers singing it [1.76 Mb].

Subject: Lyr Add: ANGELS ARE SINGING (IN HEAVEN TONIGHT)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 17 Apr 10 - 03:29 PM

I found some lyrics online, but then I listened to a recording and made a few corrections:

ANGELS ARE SINGING (IN HEAVEN TONIGHT)
Ralph Stanley & Carter Stanley
As sung by The Stanley Brothers on "Angel Band: The Classic Mercury Recordings"

1. Sweetheart, I recall the day I first met you.
I wonder if you remember the same.
We talked of the love we had for each other,
And longed for the day that we'd change your sweet name.

CHORUS: Oh, I can still hear your voice in the evening.
I see your sweet face, your blue eyes so bright.
God took you away and left me so lonely.
The angels are singing in Heaven tonight.

2. As the years passed away, we cherished each other,
No worries or cares to darken our way.
From* our little home up in the Clinch Mountains,
The Savior came down and called you one day.

3. I'll always be true and love you, my darling,
I know you are happy and welcome up there.
When God calls me home, I'll meet you in Heaven.
Sleep peacefully, darling. I'll meet you up there.

[* Wouldn't "To our little home" make more sense?]
