Heloo, i just searched the whole foruem list [and the bs section[, and there is currently NOTHING about Hull here!
Hull is best place in the werld, and there is good folk bands here , like punch the horse, [probly best folk band in hull], and in the werld, and there is a fish museum, and there is loads of pubs, and loads of mudcat people, and loads of history and stuff [i think guy falwks wasa born here, but not sure really, it might have been york],
but if your not doing nowt, come to hull, you will enjoy it, and Les from Hull does tours of the old thinghs in thge city, like the museums and stuff, he does this for free, just buy him a bear, [he drinks guinneess].
hull is good, and everyeere else is rubbish.john

[i been to loasds of places, but they all crap, i still like to live in hull.

Absolutely. Hull is the most important part of a boat, and if you don't have one, you feet get really wet. Try it sometime.

i dont think it is the best place in the werld, but it is if you have a death wish!!

i was quietly walking down bricknell avenue minding my own business when a hooligan and his cronies started chanting "WERE NOT HARD, WERE NOT GENTLE, WERE FROM GREATFIELD AND WERE F****G MENTAL!!!"
this frightened me, i even took a detour and went the long way home!!!!!!!

i wasnt gonna go up against hulls finest thugs!

one thing though, if world war 3 ever happens, hull will probably be left standing! there is no force that can defeat the prime thuggery you find here.

Peace out, ullians

No-one holds Emu any more. No-one even picks him up. His beak is slack, and his raffia unkempt. His foam legs dangle lifelessly from a chair. He lives out his days in the suburbs of Sydney after Rod HULL -the man who created him - darling of Light Entertainment sadly departed.

I bought my Missus a t-shirt that says "HULL Yorkshire" on it when I was up there for the Sea Fever do. I persuaded her to come and see the town (lots of shops, just how she likes 'em) ... and when we came it was SHUT!

But when it's open it's OK.

The best time for a Mudcat 'ull pub crawl would surely be the Eurogatherind in May. Although I work in Kingston-upon-Thames, I have spent the odd few nights in the other Kingston, as one of our major software suppliers hangs out at Hessle. I quite like the area over towards the River Hull.

Sussed!
ok heres a few ideas for pub crawls-All pubs with a colour in their name, Green Bricks, White Lion, Silver Cod etc etc etc

All pubs with animal names ie Polar Bear, White Horse, Red Lion, Whittinton & Cat etc etc etc

All pubs with numbers in name ie Three Tuns, Five Ways etc etc etc

All pubs with a session on at that time, [best night for this is Tuesday, loads of sesions then, or wednesday, you should play a tune, or sing a song in each one, [kareoke does not count, has to be a proper song or tune session, karryoke is shite]

Bev road 20, aka the bev 20, you should start at hull city centre, go along Beverley Road, drinking 1 pint in each of the 20 pubs on thr main road, you can stop for a kebab at Falcons, its about 3/4 of the way.

plenty others if anyones intrested, [i like a drink].

How about a game of snooker? One in White Harte, one in Red Lion, one in Black Boy, one in Red 'ell, one in Blue 'eaven...I'm not sure where you could sink a pink since the Earl de Grey shut!

Doing a 'Bev' is getting real hard now with all the extra pubs down Beverley Road. And our old one, a drink in each of the pubs within the City Walls is much more difficult as well.

In the seventies I answered an advert in Sounds Music paper for a penpal....(yeah sad maybe, but exciting at 14yrs old.) It was from a guy called Phil who lived in Hull and he mentioned Zappa in the ad, so I thought aha a kindred spirit.

I lied about my age, told him I was 18 ( God only knows why.)We corresponded back and forth for about a year and even exchanged photies...me trying to look all grown up and sophisticated in a Woolies photo booth. Anyway, he was coming to London for a gig, and we arranged to meet under a stone lion in Trafalgar Square.

At the last minute I bailed out and stood him up, from a mixture of nerves and terror.I never wrote again, and being phoneless at the time, knew he couldn't get in touch to say, "Oi, where the hell were you?". I felt awful, he seemed so genuine, had long gingery hair.

So Phil from Hull was lovely, sorry Phil.

Shall we have a practice this Saturday Les. i'm sure Janet would be willing and if Duncan & Eileen are around they wont miss out on a pint or gallon. As you know real ale pubs are my preference so hows about starting 7ish in Minerva then around old town to include Blue Bell, Olde White Hart, George, 3 John Scotts and Black Boy (Hull's CAMRA pub of the Year 2003). Also we could have a practice training run later this week on a small sector of Bev Rd, Gardners, Zac Pearsons & St Johns. Fancy it?

...............And if you are passing on your way to the Black Boy why not come into Durty nellies and see 'ulls 'ardest working band. Maggie the fragrant was threatening to come and see us this time, so now's your chance!!!!!!

We could do that. I've been laid up proper poorly wi' a bad back, but I should be right for Saturday. Maggie is being healthy this weekend, but we could pop in en passant and check out the band.

So that's 7 o'clock in the Minerva then everybody. Perhaps The Equine Pugilists might join us for a little social neckoil in there or Black Boy or somewhere.

Who else is coming?

My back is quite a bit better, so I'll be there on Friday. Is London ready for Scotty? It'll be interesting meeting his replacement, if anyone can replace him.

jOhn from Hull

If everybody is so good in Hull (folk singing wise - we won't talk about football :-)), why don't you all get in a big bus and come down to the Market Rasen Folk Club one Friday evening and show us what you are made of.

Floor spots still available for Friday 9th April 8:00 pm and Friday 23rd April 8:00 pm.

I know everybody is kind and generous up there and would be willing to show us your talents for nowt. :-)

Maybe we could even have a Humberside versus Lincolnshire folk competition one time at Market Rasen to see who are the best artists.

Cheers
Les from Market Rasen.

Its a mile from the racecourse. The social club even do functions especially for the races.

So if there is a race on the Saturday you would come down on the Friday sleep in a cardboard box overnight and then go to the races on the Saturday.

Follow this link. if you come from the race course towards market Rasen along the red road, when you hit the orange road, the Folk Club is pretty near to there.

jOhn - people who are related usually have their last names the same rather than their first names, so I'm perhaps not related to anyone in the dried fruit shop. On the other hand, of course, I may be related to you.

Les - thanks for the offer. But you said 'all'. That would make it a very big bus.

So much the better Les. :-)

You could all come in your campers etc or bring your tents and camp at the racecourse. That way you could come to the folk club and then watch the racing the next day!!!!

jOhn, is there a [jhon] from Hull also? Or is this just one of your pseudonyms?

jOhn, you mentioned the "person's from Hull" above. This is a burning question asked, but not answered, before: Since there is a Les from Hull, is there a More from Hull?

Anyway, I do look forward to "More from Hull", as in "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" or "As The Hull Turns"

Top of the day to you jOhn...

I am totally confused now.
Les from Hull are you related to me Les from Market Rasen.
When somebody says Les, do they mean Les From Market rasen or Les from Hull or is there another Les as well.

Now jOhn and Les Hull, have you managed to sort out what you are doing on the april 23rd or the May the 21st. You could all come by boat singing "When the boat comes in" or "row row row the boat" or "Michael of Hull row the boat ashore".

Must go, dinner on table.

What a wonderful woman Olive is and, of course her observations are absolutely accurate about our beautiful city except for one small point. Eddie tried to escape without her. Regardless of his appearance Sir jOhn is a fine person with a heart of gold and is one of the few fans of hWb plus he likes guinness. A fine quality in any man. Gordon, puffs are acceptable in the Polar Bear pub on Spring Bank. It also has live music and mud wrestling.
