Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: Dave Bryant Date: 22 Jan 04 - 10:25 AM The best time for a Mudcat 'ull pub crawl would surely be the Eurogatherind in May. Although I work in Kingston-upon-Thames, I have spent the odd few nights in the other Kingston, as one of our major software suppliers hangs out at Hessle. I quite like the area over towards the River Hull. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 22 Jan 04 - 10:40 PM Sussed! ok heres a few ideas for pub crawls-All pubs with a colour in their name, Green Bricks, White Lion, Silver Cod etc etc etc All pubs with animal names ie Polar Bear, White Horse, Red Lion, Whittinton & Cat etc etc etc All pubs with numbers in name ie Three Tuns, Five Ways etc etc etc All pubs with a session on at that time, [best night for this is Tuesday, loads of sesions then, or wednesday, you should play a tune, or sing a song in each one, [kareoke does not count, has to be a proper song or tune session, karryoke is shite] Bev road 20, aka the bev 20, you should start at hull city centre, go along Beverley Road, drinking 1 pint in each of the 20 pubs on thr main road, you can stop for a kebab at Falcons, its about 3/4 of the way. plenty others if anyones intrested, [i like a drink]. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: GUEST Date: 23 Jan 04 - 03:57 AM so they would start of as a walk and definately end in a crawl I wished I lived in the UK of Hull |
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: Les from Hull Date: 23 Jan 04 - 08:14 PM How about a game of snooker? One in White Harte, one in Red Lion, one in Black Boy, one in Red 'ell, one in Blue 'eaven...I'm not sure where you could sink a pink since the Earl de Grey shut! Doing a 'Bev' is getting real hard now with all the extra pubs down Beverley Road. And our old one, a drink in each of the pubs within the City Walls is much more difficult as well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: GUEST,guilty Date: 23 Jan 04 - 08:31 PM In the seventies I answered an advert in Sounds Music paper for a penpal....(yeah sad maybe, but exciting at 14yrs old.) It was from a guy called Phil who lived in Hull and he mentioned Zappa in the ad, so I thought aha a kindred spirit. I lied about my age, told him I was 18 ( God only knows why.)We corresponded back and forth for about a year and even exchanged photies...me trying to look all grown up and sophisticated in a Woolies photo booth. Anyway, he was coming to London for a gig, and we arranged to meet under a stone lion in Trafalgar Square. At the last minute I bailed out and stood him up, from a mixture of nerves and terror.I never wrote again, and being phoneless at the time, knew he couldn't get in touch to say, "Oi, where the hell were you?". I felt awful, he seemed so genuine, had long gingery hair. So Phil from Hull was lovely, sorry Phil. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: Les from Hull Date: 25 Jan 04 - 05:05 PM I might be up at Whitby on the Eurogather weekend, but I'm happy to participate on any training runs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: Beardy Date: 26 Jan 04 - 11:32 AM Shall we have a practice this Saturday Les. i'm sure Janet would be willing and if Duncan & Eileen are around they wont miss out on a pint or gallon. As you know real ale pubs are my preference so hows about starting 7ish in Minerva then around old town to include Blue Bell, Olde White Hart, George, 3 John Scotts and Black Boy (Hull's CAMRA pub of the Year 2003). Also we could have a practice training run later this week on a small sector of Bev Rd, Gardners, Zac Pearsons & St Johns. Fancy it? Stewart |

Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: ossonflags Date: 27 Jan 04 - 11:05 AM ...............And if you are passing on your way to the Black Boy why not come into Durty nellies and see 'ulls 'ardest working band. Maggie the fragrant was threatening to come and see us this time, so now's your chance!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: Les from Hull Date: 27 Jan 04 - 07:24 PM We could do that. I've been laid up proper poorly wi' a bad back, but I should be right for Saturday. Maggie is being healthy this weekend, but we could pop in en passant and check out the band. So that's 7 o'clock in the Minerva then everybody. Perhaps The Equine Pugilists might join us for a little social neckoil in there or Black Boy or somewhere. Who else is coming? |
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: ossonflags Date: 28 Jan 04 - 10:06 AM Lovely idea Les but we have our image to think of,that means keeping sober for the performance.Anyroad we will be to busy the early part of that night signing the countless cds. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: Beardy Date: 28 Jan 04 - 10:33 AM Reserve 2 places for Janet & me. It will be interesting to see what the Minerva's like now Scotty has moved to the Old Mitre in hatton Garden, London. Stewart |

Floor spots still available for Friday 9th April 8:00 pm and Friday 23rd April 8:00 pm. I know everybody is kind and generous up there and would be willing to show us your talents for nowt. :-) Maybe we could even have a Humberside versus Lincolnshire folk competition one time at Market Rasen to see who are the best artists. Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: The Villan Date: 14 Mar 04 - 06:40 AM Its a mile from the racecourse. The social club even do functions especially for the races. Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: The Villan Date: 14 Mar 04 - 06:56 AM Follow this link. if you come from the race course towards market Rasen along the red road, when you hit the orange road, the Folk Club is pretty near to there. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=511500&y=388500&z=3&sv=511500,388500&st=4&ar=N&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&dn= |

Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull From: The Villan Date: 14 Mar 04 - 01:03 PM So much the better Les. :-) You could all come in your campers etc or bring your tents and camp at the racecourse. That way you could come to the folk club and then watch the racing the next day!!!! Les |
