Hi, only just waking up to the music of Bill Staines. I heard one of his songs - Music to Me. I've got the tune stuck in my head but only have the first verse and chorus. Can anyone give the rest. TIA

Lovely song, isn't it?
-Joe Offer-

MUSIC TO ME
(Bill Staines)

There was a time gone by
When my heart brushed the sky
And simple love was the love I knew.
We walked as one back then
Untouched by why or when
Now once again I remember you.

We danced, we clicked our heels,
We dreamed in feathered fields
And told the stories that lovers tell.
You sang the songs I knew
And made them all seem true,
With the voice that I loved so well.

CHORUS
Did I ever tell you your name was music to me?
Did I ever show you from the start?
Did I ever know you would fly, oh, fly away?
Did I ever offer you my heart?

Ah, but we were younger then
And touched by restless winds
Soon vivid colors of love turned blue.
Now I wonder how you've grown
And run the roads you've known
And once again I remember you.
CHORUS

So time has come and gone,
You sing another song,
Yet I still linger beneath your spell.
And how I long to hear
Those words you whispered near,
With the voice that I loved so well.
CHORUS

Hi,
Thanks a lot. Everything i've heard by him is wonderful. I used to sing Roseville Fair many years ago but learned via Nanci Griffiths. It was some time before I got to hear the man himseldf and some of his other songs. I don't sing any more but have a friend who I search out songs just right for him and this is one of them. Thanks again.

He writes some wonderful songs, C. Stuart. Are you familiar with 'River'? A song just about anybody would accept as the best one he or she could hope to write. And how about 'My Sweet Wyoming Home'? Tremendous harmonies in the chorus. Lots of others. He's a prolific writer.

Enjoy.

the tabs are available in his book.. " music to me" (only one that's available at the moment... ) I suggested to him that he get folk legacy to reissue the first one... maybe if we all make the suggestion to sandy?? Alot of his earlier greats are in that book...
