Hi we are spending Wed and Thurs nights in Matlock and then Fri night in Chester. Any folk clubs in or near these places at this time

There's a Session at the Manners pub in Bakewell. Only 8 miles away on the A6 just as you come into town on the left hand side past the two petrol stations. Start about 9 pm.

This page gives some sessions (song included apparently) near Matlock. Try giving one of them a call - they'll probably know if there's anything else. There are at least 2 clubs in Chester I think (Mr.Happy, sometime visitor here, runs one I think) but I can't remember the days.

Folk Sessions In and Around Derby (last updated 2003 I think it says, so check!).

You didn't say which Weds, but there is a French dance/music w'shop at the Fishpool in Matlock Bath the second Weds of the month and an old established club at Frodsham (not far from Chester) at the Queens Head (stable) on Friday night.

It's the "Fishpond" at Matlock Bath. They also have "open mike" events there but I don't know when.

I also think the session at the Star at Tideswell shown in the link above has finished.

Close enough for a Cheshire girl! I think they have something on occasionally at the Boat/Ship? at Cromford.

I think the "Boat" is more of a folk band performing rather than a club or a session. It was the last time I was there with the "Down Trodden String Band" on a Saturday night. Can't think of a folk club in Matlock though but I'll ask around.

"The Fishpond" is to be highly recommended for gigs (both upstairs and in the bar), but can't help on sessions.
