Subject: Monitor advice From: nosluap57 Date: 30 Jan 04 - 05:11 PM I play rhythm guitar in a church band. I'm on an acoustic electric, and there is an electric guitar, electric bass, drummer, and three vocals in the band. My guitar is run through the PA, and I have a floor speaker for a monitor. With all those other band members, I always have trouble hearing my guitar in the monitor. I am wondering if there is some type of gizmo, like a small earphone type of monitor I can use, which will allow me hear myself better, and still stay plugged into the PA. If there is something like that out there, I would greatly appreciate any buying advice, experiences, and recommendations before I throw myself at the mercy of some slick salesman at the local large chain guitar retail establishment. Sorry the technical description of what I am looking for is rudimetary. Although I have played 30+ years, I have only in the last few months had anything at all to do with electronics and sound systems. But it was fun to go and buy a new Tak... |

Subject: RE: Monitor advice From: Banjo,London Date: 30 Jan 04 - 08:28 PM The simplest solution would be a small clean sounding amplifier for your guitar (maybe on a chair, next to you). It dosen't need to be loud, its just your monitor ,then you DI that into the PA, for the out front sound. Monitor systems are only as good as the people who operate them. If you keep it simple you dont get distracted and frustrated by the technology. There are very high quality in ear monitor systems available, and others will be better qualified to advise you. Myself I dont feel right wearing a "hearing aid" to perform. Banjo,London |
