Subject: Lyr Add: ONE STARRY NIGHT (D Spillane/S Tyrrell) From: GUEST,MR Date: 01 Feb 04 - 08:36 AM One starry night as I lay sleeping. One starry night as I lay in bed. I dreamed I heard the wagon wheels a-creeping. When I awoke. My love had fled. I'll search the highways, likewise the by-ways. I'll search the boreens. The camping places too. I will enquire all of our people. Have they tide or tidings or sign of you. For it's many the mile, love, With you I travelled, And many the hour, love, With you I spent. I thought our love would last forever, but now I find, love, you were only lent. Now I'm drunk today, But oft times I'm sober, A handsome rover from town to town Now I'm sick and my days are numbered, Molly Bawn astoreen, Come and lay me down. From memory |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Starry Night (Davy Spillane/Sean Tyr From: GUEST,Strollin' Johnny Date: 02 Feb 04 - 08:50 AM Hey guys, thanks a lot, and especially you Dave! Just glad I said I've got the CD before I asked for the words - it is, of course, your singing of it that's inspired me and, should I decide that I'm able to do a half-decent job on it, I'll recommend yours and Bill's version if-and-whenever I sing it in public. BTW - excellent stuff at the Turk's Head, Lincoln t'other week. Brian Dawson did a lovely set too (as you would expect!). A great evening. All the best Johnny |

Subject: Lyr Add: STARRY NIGHT (Davy Spillane, Sean Tyrrell) From: Jim Dixon Date: 03 Feb 04 - 09:14 PM Copied from http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~mdirks/song-starry.htm - which seems to be a very professionally made website, although probably not an "official" one. STARRY NIGHT (Davy Spillane, Sean Tyrrell) One starry night as I lay dreaming, One starry night as I lay in bad, I dreamed I heard wagon wheels a-creaking. When I awoke my own love had fled. I'll search the highways. I'll search the byways. I'll search the boreens and camping places too. I will enquire all of our people Have they tide or tidings or signs of you. For it's many a mile with you I've travelled. Many's the hours with you, love, I've spent. I dreamed you were my love forever, But now I find love you were only lent. I'm drunk today but oft times I'm sober, A constant rover from town to town. When I'm dead and my sorrow's ended, Molly bawn a'storean come and lay me down. For it's many a mile with you I've travelled. Many's the hours with you, love, I've spent. I dreamed you were my love forever, But now I find love you were only lent. [Recorded by Davy Spillane on his album "A Place among the Stones," Columbia CD 476930, 1995.] |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One Starry Night (Davy Spillane/Sean Tyr From: Bigh Date: 07 Sep 08 - 07:46 AM I've been singing one starry night as a floor singer for many years. Now I've found the Mudcat cafe site I intend to pay tribute to Spillane and Tyrrell by singing 'have they time or tidings or the sight of you?'; and the last line 'O Molly ban a storin', come and lay me down' Thanks a lot Gervase! |
