I'll be playing some unreleased material from Art Thieme on my radio show on Saturday, Feb. 7th. My program is streamed on the web at www.KRCU.cog and on www.KBIA.org as well as www.WEIU.org. I told him that I would give 'catters a heads-up, and this is it! Enjoy....

I guess I should mention that the program broadcasts at 7PM on KRCU and KBIA. WEIU runs the program at odd times, so you will have to check their program schedule for times.

I am guessing it will be central time, at least for the KCRU broadcast, judging from their location. So if it's 7p central time, Mudcat time would show 8p.

Did I send you this?? I have real problems with recent memory now---so please know I'm glad to have you airing it (or webbing it?) but I don't recall our talking about this. Did we e-mail about it?

Whew! I was looking over my shoulder expecting to see the lynching party coming in a cloud of dust! I know some of you 'caters would not hold still for someone picking on Art and doing something that didn't have his blessing. I was gassing up my chain saw to cut down all the tree big enough to bear my weight within a mile radius of my home---(really not that many trees!)

Got home too late to tune in. But I don't have the proper listener installed anyhow. I'm glad some enjoyed it though. I sent Jim about a tenth of the stuff we have on tape that was never issued on any records either actually (song-wise) or differently than I recorded it before (with a different instrument, arrangement, unaccompanied, whatever.)

What did Jim play tonight? It'd be cool to know.

First, John Hardy, with the five-string.

Then a medley (with the nine-string) built around Careless Love, including Frankie & Johnny, an adult version of the princess and frog tale, Frog Went A-courtin', and Father, Oh Dear Father (about the daughter who's told that all the boys she wants to marry are her half-brothers).

Then a light-hearted medley composed of The Mule in the Mines, The Landlady's Daughter, Pig in the Gutter, Old Woman Who Loved a Swine, and What Shall We Do With the Old Sow's Hide.

It was quite lovely -- vintage Art Thieme.

Katlaughing, that last song I played was by the Joel Rafael Band from California. It seems that Woody Guthrie wrote a poem that seems to be sort of a re-working of the old country tune calle "Stay \All Night, Stay a Little Longer", but he never put any music to it. Joel Rafael got the Guthrie family's permission to add the tune. It, too, seems to be very much like the above mentioned song, but it has such a nice "bounce" to it. It is really a very nice song. It can be found on the band's latest album, "Woodeye" which is all Guthry or Guthrie-related material.
    Art, the stuff listed above by B K Lick is accurate. I am so glad to see good critiques of the show and your material! Thanks to all and, most especially, Art.
