Subject: RE: Looking for Peter Astley From: GUEST,Steve T Date: 03 May 10 - 05:27 AM Up until last year Pete was living in Leicester and had been there at least since the late 1990s. Last year he was running a session at a pub called the Pump and Tap on Braunston Gate in the city on a Tuesday night. It might still be going but the venue could have changed by now to one of the other pubs on that road for all I know. Still playing mandolin and definitely the best accompaniest I've ever come across. He always added something to your songs/tunes but never took them over - and a thoroughly nice guy. |

Subject: RE: Looking for Peter Astley From: GUEST,Joanne Astley Date: 02 May 10 - 11:52 AM Hi Glen, Peter did indeed return to england in 1989, I don't know if you remember me, Peter and I were married in 1979...diviorced in 1989. However we do keep in touch. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Peter Astley From: Glen Reid Date: 03 Feb 04 - 12:53 PM We are talking about the same guy, as he did indeed live in Kanata at the time and it was from there that Peter, Martha Maddon and myself left for the east coast touring as the Farriers. Ended up down there a year and a half, then I came back to Upper Canada. He continued the group out of Halifax a couple of years after that, then presumably went back to the UK, his country of origin. Havent heard hide n' hair of him since. Out of curiosity, what is your full name, Willie-O ??? Cheers, Glen |
Subject: RE: Looking for Peter Astley From: Willie-O Date: 02 Feb 04 - 12:08 PM Glen, I believe I met the gentleman in question rather long ago, (early 80's or late 70's); he was then living in Kanata, now part of Ottawa, and was putting together a band which I unsuccessfully auditioned for. Not sure if that was what became The Ferriers, I think he was going to call the band The Wayfarers. Bill |
Subject: Looking for Peter Astley From: Glen Reid Date: 02 Feb 04 - 12:02 PM Last time I saw Peter he was in Halifax, Canada where he led a group of folkies called the "Ferriers: His principal instrument was mandolin and mandola. Origionally from England ,that is where I presume he has returned, as he is no longer in Halifax. Would appreciate any info. Thanks, Glen |
