found the most interesting page! Look here and see new ways to use Google and other search engines....then scroll down...and down and down to hints on how to 'think' about research. Good stuff!

Really well researched stuff by a woman who does it for a living.

Thanks Bill D. for this link.   Looks like an informative and pleasant way to waste even more time on the Web!

Good stuff, Bill. Very similar to another site I found about a year ago, for some of it; but that site went down (another Bush plot?). It was a fed agency, and they changed contractors.

I pulled almost 7 pages of potentially useful links off her stuff, 1 link per line and 8pt type. Some of the "philosophy" and "method" stuff may actually be more help than the links, though. It's well worth actually reading much of what she has to say.

Trouble with that is then you feel obligated to think about it.

John

yep...that 'thinking' part is really dangerous! Might overtax my brain cell! But in this case, I'll take my chances.

That's really incredible info, Bill. Thanks, very much. Lots to think about and do. I've never seen anything that thorough for this kind of info.

I am amazed that there are people using computers today that DIDN'T know all that!

GUEST hyperbolizes of course. I'd be amazed if GUEST did know everything a real reference librarian can share. & of course there are "people using computers today" who know zero, hence the friendly search engines that compensate for their inability to spell, &c., &c.

And since you took the trouble to post, GUEST, why don't you sign at least a nick?

Here is another one.......

I particularly like this one because of the free downloadable Powerpoint pages. There is a ton of stuff on webdesign etc. as well.

A recent article in PC Magazine reviews a new book on "The 1000 Greatest Web Sites" or some such. While I'm no fan of such collections, the article picks a "Top 50" that might be of interest.

On category near the top of the list is "search engines," and I found some interesting commentary on Google's "traffic weighting" method, if nothing else. Alltheweb is another one that's listed, and the contrast between Google and alltheweb "search philosophies" may be of interest.

View the article at PCMag Top 50 as posted, or avoid the adds and the "click to next page" breaks at Top 50 Print Version

Note: ZD drops a "DoubleClick" cookie on you, so clean your cookie jar when you're done, if it concerns you that they want to know where you go next.
