Hallo, all. Years ago, a friend quoted me all she knew of a song -

"...and we'll all go to Valhalla and wait for Gotterdammerung,
Who'll come a-Volsung Brunhilde with me?"

I've been asking after the rest of it for twenty years. Anybody know who wrote it, and where the rest of it might be found?

George, the one I do is Mary LaMarcas " The Ring of the Nieblung" which I got a cpoy of at a parody workshop at the Getaway a few years ago and encapsulates the entire Wagner Ring cycle in 8 verses!!!and it is to the tune of Barretts Privateers
The chorus goes

"Gotterdammerung, I was told
the Niebelung made a ring of gold
You'll feel the Fire Shed some tears
when the Valkeries ride in their steel Braziers
and the voice of Siegfried fills your ears!!"

Hi -

I'm trying to track down either the lyrics / or an .mp3 (or other audio or video file) - or both - of a parody song "The Three Minute Ring of the Nibelung", or a similar name. It's a parody of Stan Rodger's 1984 song, Barrett's Privateers.

Google has failed me on this one. The single link that Google found was to a 2004 message on www.mudcat.org. I've tried contacting the author of that message, but to no avail. The only thing that the link had was the text of the chorus used in the parody:

"Gotterdammerung, I was told,
the Nibelung made a ring of gold,
You'll feel the Fire,
Shed some tears,
when the Valkyries ride in their steel Braziers,
and the voice of Siegfried fills your ears!"

Any assistance you could provide would be gratefully accepted.

As Micca stated above "The Ring of the Nieblung" was written by the late, and much-missed, Mary LaMarca.

Mary was quite insistent that she did not wish the words to be placed online, but was happy for them to be passed from person to person on a one-to-one basis: she wanted it to be spread "in the wild".

I am fortunate to have a copy which she sent me in the form of an illuminated scroll. If you send me a PM, Elkhorn, I will be happy to supply you with the words, subject to the conditions Mary requested.

It's a matter of pronunciation. I don't think anyone uses the proper "brassière" any more. I'm afraid a brazier is a completely different kettle of fish.

Casting an eye back to the initial post of nine years ago - "Volsung Brunhilde" sounds too good as a bit of wordplay to be abandoned. If the song doesn't in fact exist it surely deserves to.

I don't know if Snuffy's still around, but Micca is. I had the words at one time, but not anymore. I remember Mary singing it for Nathan Rogers who rather liked it.

For some reason "brassière" was Americanized to sound like "braZEER". At least that was the proper way of saying it when I was younger, and the pedants frowned on "bra".

That's a "sounds like" that is ambiguous, since there would be several ways to pronounce a word spelt like that. That often happens, thanks to the idiosyncracies of English orhography and pronunciation.
