This song exists in several forms- the original from 1914, the WW1 soldiers' song "Apres La Guerre," and the popular "Under the Bridges of Paris," a hit for Eartha Kitt in 1955, as an instrumental by Michel LeGrand and in the musical "'Allo 'Allo." The original was sung by Maurice Chevalier and others.

This song also was sung to some extent by American soldiers, but I can't find any verses beyond one given in "Sound Off!" by Dolph, p. 136-137 with music.

Nettleingham remarks: "The curious and pathetic part in most cases is that mothers are not always certain whether these war babies are French, English, or even German. Time is inexorable, but blood will out- on verra."
